I'm trying a lot of different techniques lately, because I've found that every girl has a different rhythm (timing) and sense of humor. They have different sex drives and dating expectations and they use text messages accordingly.

So I'll use emojies sometimes (if funny or relevant), send funny pictures sometimes to illustrate a joke, make a sexual tease, or sometimes ignore a girl.

I won't ever text unless I have something to say which I feel is relevant or moves things along (or if necessary to maintain a holding pattern).

Two things I seldom do: give a compliment, or use a question mark. So when I ask a question it's a little bit bossy sounding I suppose. "How's my girl" is an example. I don't give explicit compliments, however my texts are complimentary in that I'm giving them attention and the benefit of my wit and humor, and sharing my feelings with them in an honest way - but not gushing.

The above 2 rules evolved as I strived to be less needy and desperate sounding in my texts.

Frequently I review the last week of text interactions with a girl and assess how it's going, e.g. if it conveys my frame adequately. My frame when gaming girls that are not actual fuckbuddies (yet) is, "I'm your lover but let's be cool about it".

If I think of something fairly saucy to text her, often I will type it in but not send it. I'll wait 5, 15 or 60 minutes then come back and review it. Sometimes I'll think, "Yaaas!" and hit send. Sometimes I'll think of something shorter, funnier, whatever. Sometimes I'll delete the message, put the phone away and wait a day or so.

I believe that the girls are going through something similar. All of them are more or less calculating in their use of text messages. Girls are annoyed by friends who are dry/infrequent text buddies just as much as guys are bugged by unresponsive girls. They complain about dry texters (to their friends) and they read/show funny text interactions to their friends.

If you set a good example by being a good texter (funny, honest and not too overpowering) then girls will get into the spirit of things and their texting will improve. Not that it will get your laid necessarily, but the idea is to put yourself out there as a dating option and potential sex partner. You can't do that and you won't get anywhere if you seldom text, you're a dry texter, or you're not warm and funny. But don't overdo it.

I've had better luck just ignoring the message. Most of the messaging apps I use don't even have a "like" feature in the first place. If she's interested, she'll come back. If not, her loss.
