How is your initial first impression? Is your vocal tonality and volume on point, breaking rapport, booming from your abdominals, deep pitch? If people occasionally look over at you when you make your approach, that’s a good thing. Obviously if it happens everytime that’s just weird, but occasionally means you’re being nice and loud.

Are you well-groomed, obviously shaved (or beard maintained) and showered, or do you look like an gaming addict who’s left their mom’s basement for the first time in weeks? Do you have a cool haircut and do you smell good (i.e cologne), or do you make women think you’re homeless?

How is your fashion? Are your clothes stylish and fitted, or do you wear baggy t-shirts and those two pairs of ripped jeans you still have from high school? There’s no excuses for “sucking at fashion” btw, there’s like 90,937,837 different good IG pages on male fashion, and r/malefashionadvice is solid.

Are you holding strong eye contact (think Superman eyes), or do your eyes dart around nervously? Don Draper in Mad Men does this perfectly, when she’s talking it’s okay if you look away from time-to-time, but when you first approach and when you’re speaking, you lock in your steely gaze to her eyes.

Do you have a smile or a slight smirk on your face when you approach? If a woman thinks there’s even a small chance that you might actually be a serial killer, the interaction is done.

You can have a dad bod, it’s fine, some women even prefer that believe it or not, but if you’re obese, the only women who will ever give you the time of day are fellow obese women. But you should know that if you would put in the effort to get lean, your results would improve. That being said, if you aren’t going to put in the effort to get lean, you need to at least get your ass in the gym and put some muscle underneath that layer of fat. A guy who looks like he’s permanently bulking will always look better than a guy who doesn’t look like he’s ever picked up a dumbbell.

If you’re doing all of these things right, then you can work on your actual verbals. Play around with different opening styles (direct, indirect, semi-direct with a non-physical compliment, semi-direct with a push-pull or mini cold-read, opinion opener, etc) until one really clicks with you and your personality. My only hard rule on this is that since you’re a beginner, do not go fully indirect, bc 99% of beginners don’t ever show intent (i.e your true intentions) if they open indirect.
