Don't try to predict the outcome of your approach, or guess the outcome, or imagine what the outcome will be. Might be rejection, might be a connection, but you won't be able to predict it, so don't even burden yourself with it. That is the beauty of the 3-second rule, it doesn't give you time to predict the outcome, because by that point, you have already opened. The more you get in your head about it, the more you will convince yourself to chicken out.

Don't think, just do.

There's this guy in your head. His name is Mr. Loser. He's the guy who would like you to stay home and never ever leave your computer, because that's safer and you won't get hurt. He talks with you when you see that cute girl, and runs all the different scenarios in your head. And before you know it, that girl is gone. Boom, never to be seen again, and Mr. Loser smugly sits there and thinks "Yeah, threat thwarted!"

Next time you have those thoughts, I want you to say, very quietly - so quietly nobody will hear you, "Fuck you." That's to Mr. Loser. Fuck Mr. Loser. Well, you'd actually rather fuck that cute girl, but still, fuck 'im. Kick him right out of your mind, kick him out of your life, and approach that girl!

Pretty much in the same boat as you. Past the approach I think I am golden, but the approach is scary as shit to me. The responses and feedback I have gotten are to just do it. Do it often. Do it whenever. Do it everywhere. Do it all the time. Approach guys and girls. Approach everyone, all the time, every time. It's the only way to get over it. There isn't a magic sentence that suddenly gets rid of AA or it wouldn't be a problem.

Give yourself tangible goals to work towards, as far as just numbers of approaches, not concentrating on #-closes. If you're at a bar, make a deal and say you won't get a drink until you open five sets or something. If you're walking home from class, just try to open five sets before you get home. Even if it's just stopping a random girl passing by to ask the time. Stopping people to ask the time/directions is a great way to break AA because after you've gotten the information, you can finish the interaction. You don't have to worry about how to carry on a conversation afterward. Once you're comfortable approaching people, then you can work on conversation and results.

You're putting too much pressure on the situation and yourself. Aren't you curious about who she is? So what's the harm in starting up a harmless conversation?

Don't tie this to an outcome. Forgot about outcomes and be more curious about the people and world around you. Like Steve said, just do it. And don't forget to have fun with it!

I haven't tested it yet, but "20 seconds of insane courage" is apparently all you need. It's the same adrenaline boost you would get if a lion started running toward you, the fear turns into energy. And once the ball is rolling it's too late for AA.

The counter is to approach and get rejected 100 times. Then get 100 rejected 100 times more. If you STILL haven't gotten over AA, then you need to get rejected another 100 times.
