Considering you've pretty good social skills, the following happens when you go direct. I know because I've done direct on more than 300 sets.

It only works on girls who are very confident in their looks. Majority of girls will leave after the opener making a weird face cuz they're too scared to talk to you.

When you go direct, what you're implying is "I don't much care about your opinion and I don't give a shit if you reject me or else I wouldn't have been this bold". This mindset makes you very intimidating for her, because she likely isn't accustomed to this type of approach from most men and doesn't know how to react. So she just rejects you and leaves.

Here is some unpopular but practical advice: Treat a woman like a cat. Open gently, indirectly (try to hide your confidence and try to fake 'SIMP-ness'). Let her satisfy her ego thinking she can play her little mind games with you in the beginning. Show intent when she start opening up to you. THEN GO DIRECT.

Cold approaching is like starting a really hard game on nightmare difficulty. It's beatable but you are going to die to every mob at the beginning. Being direct is the way to go but you better work on your charm.

Direct shouldn't hurt and in fact should help you either move forward with that girl or she will let you know if the feelings is mutual or not. In the end, you are asserting yourself and I would say a majority of women like that regardless if it's on a dating app or in-person.

Read a book called Mode One by Alan Roger Currie. But at the least if you're approaching a woman you want to date, don't take the friend approach. Be straight up and tell her you're attracted to her or something along those lines

This approach is poor. Women need to build rapport first before attraction is made. They aren't just going to be attracted to you instantly without any prior conversation.
