In my day, and I'm 62, the guy paid for it all. I took a 30 yr old out a few days ago, she wanted to pick up the tip. In both cases, I let her. Bug then I made breakfast for her at my house

Go on the date. Just make sure it's a restaurant you like so if the date goes bad you at least can get some good food.

To actually say it has to be diner or wants to go to a specific restaurant is weird. If she requested a specific restaurant, she can pay if she wants to go there so bad.

On the other hand, it's not really a date if you don't go somewhere to eat.

Doesn't really matter what we would do. It matters what you want to do. You seem to be saying that you do not prefer this as a first date and that is perfectly valid.

Again it doesn't really matter what we want, so much as what you want. That having been said, I definitely do not prefer a dinner or restaurant date as a first date. Why?

If you don't know the person yet then being locked into a full meal can be awkward.
You usually know within 5 minutes if the date's going to go well and you could be stuck at dinner with someone when it's going poorly, which can be awkward for everyone.

So I usually prefer something less formal like meeting at a cafe or a bar for drinks or snacks. Something simple that allows flexibility: if things aren't going well, then you can leave after a drink has been consumed. No harm, no foul.

And if things are going well then you can just as easily extend or even move on to our restaurant if you really want.

If someone is insisting on a dinner date / restaurant meet up, then I would generally screen them out and not bother.

In my experience, someone who insists on a restaurant/dinner date is usually the kind of person who wants the guy to pay for everything and considers it part of their screening process to find out whether the guy will do that or not.

To each their own, but that's not for me. The last time I went on a restaurant date as a first date, the girl deliberately ran the bill up to over $150 USD. And very conspicuously peaced out as the bill was being paid; didn't even make a show of offering to help.

There was no second date because asking the guy to pay is one thing, but driving the bill up is just rude.

Ditch her if you don't like to go on a date. And just be straight forward that you are not paying for her meal. That's it.. Search for another woman who thinks the same as you.
