Well Manson talks about vulnerability, which means being comfortable with whatever it is you are. In that sense, being ashamed of losing it to a hooker is indeed not being vulnerable, you are afraud others will think you are a loser because of it. The thing is, even if you lost your virginity to a hooker, the way you think about it is what determines wether you are a loser or not, if you are comfortable in who you are now, then why does it even matter who you lost it to? you could even joke about it and not take it seriously, who gives a fuck if you lost it to a hooker? virginity means nothing anyway.

You can (and I think SHOULD) hide this. You don't have to be 100% transparent to every woman you meet, because some guy wrote something in a book.

Realistically, you should never have to say this. Who are these people/women that are pressing you about your past sex life? If it is women, then they really don't need to or want to know the details. They are probably trying to gauge what kind of guy you are and experience you have. Just come up with anything remotely plausible. Convey the idea that it happened, you are happy with the experience, and she was a nice girl. You are a classy, experienced guy that doesn't kiss and tell.

OP, vulnerable just means you would be willing to talk about it under some circumstances. I agree, this is not something to regularly bringing up. In fact I wouldn't mention that until you knew the better much better.

But, in your own conscience, you should get over the shame. Maybe talk it out here, or to a counsellor...you need to come to terms with that decision.

I'd say what's needy is constantly measuring your own level of neediness. DON'T LIE. But that doesn't mean you have to give any details. Just say it's personal and you would rather keep it to yourself. If you decide you want to share it when you know the person better, go ahead.

The issue with Mark is that these broad abstract concepts he created just aren't shaped very clearly in the real world, and you're left asking questions like this.
