If you're in your 20s to early 30s, dating around and hooking up seems like the typical strategy to find out what you're looking for in a long term partner. From a life eye view so to speak, ideally you'd want a safe and stable marriage. However, without being in relationships first you won't actually know what you want (and don't want).

That said, casual hookups/fwb is not a bad thing depending on how your feeling, life goals and near future plans.

As an example I'm planning on moving early next year, so why should I look for a relationship when it will interfere with my other plans.

Likewise if I weren't moving, a relationship would probably be my goal.

It's a houses for courses thing. The importance is on what you want/need and how it gets you closer to being fulfilled in life.
