What’s your strategy when you literally can’t think of anything to say as you approach someone?

If it's in a casual setting I usually just blurt out something funny about some remedial task that everyone does in thier daily life...

Example: Cute girl in elevator with you in casual setting "Soo I went to use my electric toothbrush this morning and the battery was dead and I ended up using it like a normal toothbrush but it felt like I was a caveman trying to learn to brush teeth or something, lol!"

It establishes you practice good hygiene
Everyone can relate to brushing teeth so it's not a threatening topic
It's something funny about yourself showing vulnerability and making you easy to approach
Segways into a conversation about if your the type to squeeze toothpaste tube from the middle or roll it up from the end. Another non-threatening and funny topic.

Just say „hi i’m ...” shake her hand, ask her some question about her, listen to her answer, relate to that answer by making more statements/question.

Just go with, "hey I wanted to talk to you but I had no idea what to say. I don't have a cool pickup line or anything. how are you?"

Of course, avoid the obvious: racism, sexism, etc., but I think if you blurt out something ridiculous you can have a laugh and go from there.

Some will fall for it, and most of the rest will at least think it's goofy and funny. Only a minority have responded poorly to this one.
