Confidence is attractive, because it means you are a decisive person, who takes decision and knows what you want from life, and will stand your ground when it rains hard. It conveys you are the person who will navigate all the troubles that life will throw at you, with best of your abilities. It conveys strength, mental, physical and emotional. That makes you more trusted than a low confidence person who can shift and will run away when things get bad in life.

Absolutely true
[–]GrandMasterB19 22 points23 points24 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Most people are unattractive because most people don't have the guts to be who they want to be. Most people are more concerned of what others think of them than what they think of themselves. Not only is it unconfident, it's inauthentic. People want to date someone they know is real so they can form a sincere bond based on genuine connection, trust, and honesty. Unconfident people are inauthentic, insincere, fearful, and lack the sense of freedom it takes to express themselves in a charming, charasmatic, and attractive fashion.
This is also why the advice "just be confident" never works. One can't simply just "be" confident because confidence isn't something you just have or don't have, it's something that has to be developed and cultivated individually.

It's also the result of sublt neglect and abuse those people have gone through to feel like they're opinions and wants are invalid, when they don't have people sharing their interests or worse belittling them for it is when the knockdown effect comes into play and it only escalates as time goes on and they feel like they should just shut up and keep their head down for the sake of avoiding torment.

Absolutely. I went through a lot of what you're describing while growing up, and from many different sources. I allowed it to destroy my self-esteem, self-image, and sense of self-worth for a very long time. Psychologically I think this is some of the worst stuff you can do to a developing human because you're pretty much invalidating their existence, which is something young people are already questioning anyway.

After being on a lot of hollow dates, I can confirm this is the case, and it isn't just restricted to guys, but women as well, we don't want a pushover that goes along with everything we suggest, we want to hear what you want to do as well.
You have to meet halfway and arrange your own activities and opinions, because all you're doing is becoming a yes-wo(man) by agreeing to everything we're suggesting without throwing in your own desires and you come across as boring and uninteresting to be around.

For sure! My post definitely was meant for both sexes.

I wasn't going to insinuate but I know a lot of people will look at men towards this problem as if shy women are exempt from this rule, they're not.

I see your point

We seek what we lack. A lot of people seeking out relationships are doing so because they're insecure and lack confidence in themselves. Most secure and confident people don't actively look for relationships. They just find them.

I’m super confident meditating at home since the lockdown. Haven’t found a relationship. What exactly went wrong?
[–]-KINGLYBoi- 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The lockdown happened, we could’ve met more people without the pandmeic happening but we can’t stop it anyways. Keep doing what you’re doing - meditating is really good for the brain and soul. It’s a headstart for you and not everyone have luxury of time to do activities due to work and all, so kudos to you. while you’re working on yourself exercising, meditating, and more. Relationships will come naturally; it’s like you’re on autopilot. Not to forget that there are more fish in the sea. I hope this helps

Not sure if it works this way unfortunately.

Uh huh, this makes sense now.

What’s is ego? That’s the main question
[–]PatPat25 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Ego is in a sense, how you want others to see you. When you're egotistical rather than confident, you're easily moved by other people's reactions and opinions. When you're confident, others can still anger you and make you sad but it doesn't affect who you are and how you see yourself (doesn't necessarily have to be realistic 😉)at the core. You're chillin my friend

10/10 explanation ;))
[–]Hariharan_VN 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nice explanation 😆🙌🙌🙌
[–]Dominus-Prime- 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This is incorrect. The ego is how you see yourself. It is the mediator between the conscious and unconscious minds. Ego is not inherently bad. It just simply is. It can become bad or good (or let’s say useful and not useful) via our childhood experiences as they filter through the conscious and unconscious. Freud divides the mind between the Id, Ego and Superego. Id are instinctual impulses, Superego is essentially morality and the Ego mediates between the two in reality. The superego has two parts: the conscience and the ideal self.
Being “egotistical” is a result of the interaction between the three main parts

Hmm yes you're right. My statement still stands regardless. If you act out of needing external validations, you can be easily played like a puppet. If you act out of the belief that you don't need to impress people and you are ENOUGH, you'll be much more genuinely confident
[–]Dominus-Prime- 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Correct except the word enough. Using the word still is in reflection of others. Enough for what? Who? See what I mean? If you say “enough for myself” then it’s still off bc a man should always be in the pursuit of greater self development, never fully being satisfied with who he is today. There is no “you are enough”.
[–]Maxwheel21 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Good point but I place myself in the good old "not the one nor the other". Lack of confidence or self esteem sure is a problem in a relationship, but ever you tried dating someone with TOO much ego? Sometimes is even worse. I personally find equally attractive someone than has confidence in what he/she can do and a bit of low esteem in what they cannot do
[–]eightbic 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s the difference between confidence and arrogance.
