[Wingmen] Let's create a definitive guide to winging: What do you do to be a good wingman? What makes a good wingman? How do you deal with 'conflict' and 'competition' between each other? Any other important factors to consider?

A wing man is ALWAYS there to support you in any situation. What a wingman should always do:

• DHV you when appropriate (say how awesome you are at x,y,z)

• Allow you to walk away with a girl at ANY time (unless he's your driver, logistics should be discussed prior to going out)

• Give you constructive criticism (if you need to improve somewhere he should let you know, if you're doing awesome at something he should let you know)

What a wingman should NEVER do:

• DLV you (put you down in any way shape or form)

• Take over a whole set by talking to much and never giving you a shot

• Ditch you during the night or leave you hanging (again, logistics should be discussed before the night closes)

Extra notes: My buddy and I always had a system that went something like this. We would take turns driving on different nights. If the non-driver wanted to drink they could but usually there was almost 0 drinking involved. We would discuss logistics throughout the course of the night. Usually, if one of us wanted to leave for an SNL it was fine and you could do it at anytime. But, if you were the driver you would have to talk to your wing and see their status (how they were doing, if they think they could potentially get another ride home, if cabs were an option etc) I live in LA so this was always a situation that had to be dealt with, because transpo in this town is terrible and expensive. Basically, we would always make sure one of us had the option to get where they needed.

In terms of the target, the rule was: if you approached, you get your pick. The way you communicate that to your wing was by kino'ing the girl you were interested in. For example, if I approached a group (usually the case at bars/clubs) and my wing comes in a couple minutes later, I would put my arm around my target and say, "Stephanie, you have to meet my buddy, archaicfrost, he is one of the best drummers I know". Here I am killing two birds with one stone (dhv'ing my wing and telling him who I'm going for).

Sometimes the sets just sucked and we would both want out. The code for this is one of us would say, "Hey sloane called and we gotta go meet up with her". That meant that we weren't interested in any of the girls. If the other wing actually wanted to stay in set they would say, "oh, we'll call her later". At this point the wing who is bored or not interested in any of the girls has permission to leave.

Some of these signals we used throughout the years were extremely helpful. We never had to deal with any BS jealousy. And at the end of the night, if we were still together we would get some food and break down the night and discuss where we could improve etc.

Knowing your buddies personality and playing off of it is always the best strategy. If I go out with one of my more quiet and reserved friends I am always loud and cocky, but if I am going out with another loud and confident guy I usually play the nice friend who talks about how great his buddy is. However YMMV.

Don't forget pivots. I have recently gotten a pivot but there's barely any tips for them other than "flirt with your guy friends" and making him preselected!

I think knowing the person you're winging for inside and out is really important. For example, I've never had a better wingman than my cousin, just because we've shared so many things together. Making us communicate in a whole different way when we're going out sarging together. Plus choosing the girls you go after is much easier when you both know eachothers taste.
