I'm currently being coached by an MPUA who is teaching me 90% inner game and 10% in field. Essentially 99% of what your mind is telling you is bullshit, it's usually rationalizing fear, anger, or neediness.

When you're afraid of doing something and you come up with a rationalization for not doing it "she's with her friends, I shouldn't interrupt", then you become angry for not getting what you want (neediness) because of your fears, at this point you continue blame the external (people, environment, yourself), "girls don't find me attractive". No the truth is, you're just avoiding your fears and your ego is trying to protect itself.

When you don't get what you want (neediness) you become angry, and then you start rationalizing your rejections "oh she's a bitch, she was being rude anyways".

or when you start getting results, your ego builds itself up, this is called neediness. "Damn I'm amazing, I got 5 numbers today and 2 kcloses". You feel good about yourself, but then a week later you get no results, and you fall harder. This creates the roller coaster of emotions.

The trick is to acknowledge that 99% of what your mind says is bullshit fear (avoidance), anger (blame), or neediness (validation). Observe it, and do the exact opposite.

A discussion on the Bay Area Seddit chat group about how it's important to understand the difference between your ego and your true self sent me on a Wikipedia binge. I found this link particularly interesting. It is critical for your self development to be able to recognize your socially conditioned ego defense mechanisms so you can stop destructive behavior and stick to level 4 (mature) coping methods.

I would recommend reading a book called Hide and Seek: The Psychology of Self Deception. It examines ego states along with a range of other psychological faux pas' more closely.

Thanks for sharing this earlier in the BAS chat. For me I realized how many times I have fallen into this trap of making up excuses to not feel rejection. Being aware of this internal ego related chatter (and ignoring it) is really going to help my game.

This is freudian so its kinda outdated, but the intent of this post i agree with 100%. You have to know where youre fucked before you can move on. treating yourself objectively is key for ANYTHING. Dont hide from yourself.
