Came here to let off steam with a rant.

I’m 52(M), ex is 43(F) 20 years together, 17 married. 2 beautiful kids 12 and 14. We led a charmed life together: both have good jobs that we enjoy, are fit and good looking, live in a great house in a great location, travelled far and wide, always found each other fun and easy company.

Not enough though. Turns out that she started an affair with her personal trainer at least 2 1/2 years ago. Usual pattern ensued: Multiple DDays, me in continued denial, she gaslighting, $$$ wasted on MC. She was able to play the double life like a pro: unlike some of the stories of conflict I know are common, she and I genuinely seemed to get on just as well as we always had - laughter, fun times, great sex almost every day, family life and times, arguments and conflict rare, she’d send me 100s of love notes, or hide them about my luggage if I went on business trips.

I finally called time and the scales fell from my eyes after DDay 4 in April this year. Sexting and details of hardcore physical encounters on a secret insta account.

She moved out, the kids and I stayed in the family home (which she encouraged me to plunge over $300k into while she continued her sordid business in the shadows). AP is married with a disabled kid. He stalked the house throughout the affair - sitting on a bench within clear view at crazy times, day and night, all weathers, like a faithful dog. When I reported him to the police they made it clear he has history. Didn’t put her off though.

First 4 months I had the kids about 80%. Then went 50/50 after I sat her down and asked how she thought the kids might look back on her lack of presence post affair reveal (we told them in age appropriate way before she moved out)

Anyway… Having read so many books (chumplady a saviour) and forums, I know full well that my story is not special or unique.

But I wrote her a letter a few months ago that I will probably never send. And it would be helpful to drop it here as a simple rant for myself.

I call it “Do you remember when?”
