Fast forward 30 years. Will you be able to look your son in the eye and tell him to do what you are about to try? Me personally, I wrestled with this for five years and eventually I realized I couldn't tell my daughter's to do what I was doing. But the reality is that by doing it I was telling them to do it every single day I stayed with her.

I'd rather them have an amazing father not with their mother then a barely functioning father that stayed with their mother.

Reconciliation for yourself (while typically a pipe dream) is actually fine because you'll be committed to making the relationship better and the kids will see a better relationship if it succeeds.

This way, your son will just see the both of you miserable in a shit marriage for his whole life.

That kid will grow up happy knowing nothing but mom and dad apart in two happy homes. Much better than growing up in a home like the one my kids grew up in.
