Best first date questions?

I’m 47 so we may be looking for different things. I like to ask about their family relationships. If they had a tough childhood and haven’t dealt with that it’s a big red flag problem to me. I like to ask what they are looking for in dating/relationship. I ask what things are important or deal breakers to them. I like to ask what makes them happiest and what do they like to spend money on. I ask what upsets them or makes them angry.

Just remember to not reveal too much about yourself and what you are looking for in a relationship. You want him to show you who he is through his actions and not by morphing into whatever you tell him you’re looking for in order to manipulate you into a false sense of trust.

The first date is where I do extensive covert recon. You are interviewing him. You seem interested by asking questions. Men get easily sucked in when a woman listens intently. Mentally, you are taking notes on any flags (red, yellow or green). People love to talk about themselves so it doesn’t come off as an interrogation if you let it flow naturally.

Here’s what I try to cover between the first call and first date:

-are you single? How long have you been single? Is there anyone who believes they’re in a relationship with you?

-where does your family live? Are you close to them?

-do you have children? How many? Where do they live? Do you want children? How many?

-what do you do professionally? Do you like it? What are your career goals?

-how do you think you contributed to what went wrong in your last relationship? (This one is reserved for deep into the convo if he is open and convo is flowing)

-how do you spend your spare time?

-where do you live? Do you live alone?

-what are you most excited about in your life right now?

-where did you go to school and what did you study?

-what’s the last book you read? Tell me about it.

-what is your best trait?

-how would your best friend describe you to someone who had never met you?

-do you like to travel? What’s your favorite destination?

The cool thing about these questions is that if he returns them, you have an opportunity to articulate your values and standards without tipping your hand about what you’re “looking for” or coming off like you’re bragging. When they are returned, I answer just enough to be satisfactory without getting into personally deep topics or insecurities.

All these suggestions are great, but on your end don't forget to play dumb fox. You don't wanna reveal your hand and accidentally give him the roadmap on how to get in your pants dishonestly. You want to see how he truly feels and who he is. If you give too much info, he may just say exactly what you want to hear so he can get what he wants.

The best question is silence. Sit comfortably and smile, people usually fill the gaps in conversations in a way that exposes their real selves. Plus, that way you don’t give too much info he can use to pretend he’s your kind of HV.
