Well, the study said that recycling and using reusable shopping bags are "traditionally associated with women", which I think is ridiculous. Does anyone else think that recycling is stereotypicaly feminine? Maybe I'm just the weird one.

"donating to a waterfowl sportsman's group" is the best they could come up with for traditionally masculine activities?

One interesting thing is that buying full electric cars like Tesla model 3 or Chevrolet Bolt, is still done mostly by men (2/3 of buyers), despite other cars being bought by women more. Cited most frequently is the misguided fear of being out of charge and stranded...a fear that is completely unwarranted for Tesla or Bolt (200+ miles of autonomy). Unless aliens come and EMP your car (you'd be screwed even with a gas car if its more recent than 1980).

The problem with attributing human behavior, or lack thereof, to stereotypes is simultaneity. You have to ask: are heterosexual men avoiding these pro-environment behavior because they are associated with women and homosexuals? or are these pro-environment behaviors associated with women and homosexuals because heterosexual men are less likely to do them? There doesn't seem to be a good way to answer that question.

Well I'm an environmentalist and I wasn't aware it made me unmasculine. I wonder if it's more a side-effect of the left-right divide generally.

I have been involved with green groups and grown frustrated with the misandry that is present there as in all left-wing movements. Even though I care about the issues, that certainly makes me feel alienated, so I could understand that that is alienating lots of men from environmentalism. Also, green groups (rightly) oppose fossil fuel industries which employ mainly males, and admittedly concern for what will happen to those employees is often a distant priority, so that could be a factor too.

Likewise, I am frustrated with a tendency among MRAs to dismiss or not even consider environmental issues. Again, this could be because most MRAs lean right on the left-right spectrum more generally.
