If male disposability supposedly developed because the lives of individual women are more important to the continuance of the species than the lives of individual men, then, from a cold "evolpsych" perspective, shouldn't it reverse after middle age when women can no longer bear children but men can still impregnate? Yet, this does not seem to be the case, as I don't imagine people in general are more outraged about a middle-aged or old man being mistreated or subjected to violence than a middle-aged or old woman in the same situation.

This to me is encouraging, as it suggests to me that there is a stronger social component to male disposability and the empathy gap than the most pessimistic among us might admit, which would mean that, in theory, these phenomena should be capable of being changed, even if the battle is admittedly an uphill one.
