Select findings I found most noteworthy:

Overall, participants reacted less positively to papers that found men were better at drawing than women than those that found the reverse. Participants found the male-favouring study less convincing, for instance, and felt the researchers were less trustworthy. This effect was stronger for female participants, but male participants showed it too; despite this, participants assumed that the average man and woman would respond more positively to findings that favoured their own gender over the other.

The second study replicated the first, but looked at a more significant and consequential trait than drawing: intelligence. Again, participants had a much less positive response to articles favouring men over women than those that favoured women over men – and, again, this effect was stronger in women, as well as in left-leaning participants.

People also saw the male-favouring research as more harmful – and the more harmful they felt it was, the lower quality they felt it was too, and the more inclined they were to protect women from the results. Unlike the first study, the gender of the lead researcher also made a difference: participants responded more negatively to research favouring men when the lead researcher was male rather than female. However, the gender of the lead author on research favouring women didn’t make a difference to participants’ judgements.

The good ol' Women are Wonderful effect.

[–]TisIChenoir 49 points50 points51 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup.

And the fact that nobody on the progressive side of things seems to ever acknowledge that effect in society and how it can affect their views on issues concerning both women and men.

If you're infouenced by that effect - and let's be honest, everyone, even aware of it, is influenced by it - it's only natural that you'll gravitate toward radical positions about the rights and responsibility of women and men in socoety, whereas women can't be responsible of any issue because they are wonderful, so men should be ressponsible for all issues in society becaise, frankly, they are not wonderful. At all.

And how could men have any issues when women are so wonderful? It would mean that women are partly responsible for men's suffering, but we know it's not possible, because women are wonderful.

Anyway, it's infuriating because if you want to have a real, balannced discussion on gender issues, you must acknowledge that bias and the effect it has on everyone's discourse.

But somehow it seems that even acknowledging said effect is seen as misogynistic.

Even the fucking wording of the study itself favours women

“ they may also, as above, be using their knowledge of the history of badly done and sexist research to make a guess about the quality of the work.”

Literally the only time this article, which is about men being disadvantaged, uses the term “sexist” is when something doesn’t favour women. Beyond parody.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't even notice it.

Of course, popularized misandry doesn't allow for men to exist outside of a useable state.

The utility of man.

The irony is the that this study also favors men, so it would probably be ignored as well.

Aren't modern IQ tests purposefully modified to zero out sex differences as much as possible?

[–]shit-zen-giggles[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

These 'studies' were credible fakes. The purpose of this study was to test the reactions of the test subjects towards those fake studies (which were presented to the test subject as real).
