It's time that we start thinking about how this movement will evolve over the coming years. The Men's movement is by no means a new thing, however the dialogue hasn't changed much since inception. Can we evolve the conversation a bit?

As we grow, we develop the ability to see things from more angles. We meet new people. We encounter new philosophies. No-one comes into the world with a fully formed model of reality. It's something we build over time, incorporating new ideas, perspectives and sensitivities as we encounter them.

The evolution of Feminism over it's history has been towards inclusiveness. I think the same trend is likely in the MRM, because it seems to be reflective of a more general trend of growth within our society. However, this will be a challenge for the men's movement because men tend to be individualistic. However, I'd argue that in order to gain any ground, we'll have to move towards being more inclusive.

The dualistic and antagonistic perspective is valid. When we first start waking up to the way we've been fucked by our culture, we get angry. It's natural to direct that anger at various sources. However, at some point the anger turns into a desire to act. The question then becomes, how can we act in a way that creates a better world for men and women. Attacking feminism is not going to solve anything. The anger might be justified, but none-the-less, striking out is just not going to work. It's just going to fuel a gender war.

What we really need is a new form of discourse. We need to focus on what we want to create, and start discussing a world beyond the gender war.

What would it mean for men and women to have autonomy, freedom, and personal power as well as feel safe and secure? It seems like those things are opposing, because they are. This is a major reason why men and women don't easily relate. Men generally seek freedom and women generally seek safety. Well, let's start talking about what a culture that honored both freedom and safety would look like. To do anything less is to marginalize one gender's needs over the other.

The Men's movement is threatening to Feminists. Why? They are afraid that we will neglect women's needs in our efforts to honor men's needs. That's a fair concern. Heck, that's exactly what Feminism has done to men. Let's not make that same mistake. Let's bring compassion to the men's movement. Focusing on just men and boys seems like a good idea, but it's doomed to fail. Unless we are more inclusive right from the outset, the movement will look like a hate group, as it currently does.

So, what does this all look like? I'm not sure. However, one thing I am certain of is that we need to adapt. If we continue as we have, the inevitable outcome will be a gender war. 3rd wave feminism will crush 1st wave MRM. However, if we expand our definition of what it means to champion men and boys, we can have a hope in hell of meeting Feminism half way, starting a dialogue and creating a culture that includes the best parts of our previous structures and also transcends them. We can create a better relationship between the genders, but only if we care to do so and focus on that specifically.

TLDR; Let's avoid a gender war by evolving the conversation about what it means to be an MRA and creating a new wave of the Men's movement.

EDIT: Spelling.

EDIT: Well, since every single comment is a negative one, maybe I should pivot and ask another question. Every movement evolves. What do you see changing in the future with the MRM? Or is it perfect and it doesn't need to change a thing?
