Throwaway account because this probably makes me sound like a coward...

I definitely don't hate women. Until I went to graduate school, almost all of my friends were women (now it is about 50/50). But now I realize that any one of those women could completely destroy my entire life.

I've had sex with at least some of them. All it would take is a claim that it was non-consensual. There wouldn't need to be any hard evidence and I wouldn't need to go to jail, but my life could easily be ruined. Expelled, my name dragged through the mud, loss of friends,...

Fortunately, none of my female friends are sociopaths! But if I had been more aware of these issues when I was younger I probably wouldn't have felt as comfortable around women. As a creep an unattractive male, I probably should have been more careful.

I'm definitely jealous of how easy it is for women to get jobs in my field. As an Indian-American male in academia, I have it much harder than my female peers. Even if I do everything right and work my butt off, I can still get passed over for a faculty position just because a woman helps a department meet their quota.

The whole system makes me feel weak. Professionally and socially helpless. It's terrifying.
