I've always thought people's marginalization of female-on-male sexual violence was a mix between ignorance (people genuinely believing it's harmless, e.g. that boys are actually always okay afterwards) and a lack of empathy, with ignorance being the primary factor

Considering how the responses to cases where there's no information about how it affected the victim and the responses to cases where the victim was evidently traumatized by it are no different (e.g. that he's lucky, that there's no victim, that men/boys are never negatively affected by being raped by women, that he shouldn't complain), I'm recognizing that lack of empathy is probably a bigger factor than simply not being aware of the possibility or effects of female-perpetrated sexual violence

Male suicide is already a huge issue, and it's unfortunate that in this case it could be really difficult for him to get the support and therapy he needs in a society that already is fairly ignorant about men's mental health and is especially not concerned about how to deal with men and boy in situations like these

teacher should be arrested, thrown in prison the rest of her fucking life and anyone in the school that supported her or tried to cover any of her shit up should be fired and blacklisted from a teaching profession for life.

child molestation goes both ways, if you have sex with a child, your a child molestor and should be in prison for the rest of your life, fuck anyone that says that these kids having sex with adult women are ''lucky'' but are willing to march men that molest children right to the firing squad, both men and women should we locked up for life for having sex with kids.

It doesn't say she's been charged yet, unless I missed it while skimming the article. I'm all for rapists being dealt with justly, but I feel it's important that we do our best to maintain a mindset of "innocent until proven guilty" for all rape accusations, not just the accusations against men.

Let me just say though that I don't think it's okay that the poor kid tried to kill himself, and that I feel it is a pretty compelling point for his case.

Jill Lamontagne should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

While I applaud the equality of releasing the name of the accused, I don't think names of accused should be released without releasing names of alleged victims too.

Jill's life won't be as disrupted by the release of her name as a man's would be though, so my empathy is limited.

A boy could feel "used" by a relationship with a 16 year old girl too. Someone feeling unappreciated doesn't necessarily mean that their partner did anything wrong.

Think of all the self centred women who wrongly stereotype men "he's just using is for sex" when the man actually values her for things besides that.

I keep this in mind when the genders are swapped. Holding an opinion of a sex partner's motives doesn't mean it is accurate.

If Jill actually did have sex with him, she should lose her teaching license, but I am not one to call all unlawful sex "rape" and would not want to prosecute her for it unless there was evidence she raped him.

Regardless of how he felt, it sounds like he voluntarily kept coming back for more because he loved her.

Sometimes you love someone and they don't love you back. It happens. If we tolerate teenagers risking this heartbreak with each other I don't see why we should forbid this for post-teens.

I dont think heartbreak is lucky. I don't think it is wrong to report a teacher crossing student boundaries. But I do question if he is her victim or whether he self victimized by getting his hopes up she would fall in love with him.

Of course, we're given almost nothing to go on, but it seems like she was going to dump him.

It's a bad relationship, not a crime.
