The scary thing is that if she hadn't acted so rudely, if instead she had pretended to like him and pretended to engage, he would have fell for it and ended up paying for everything. Then she most likely would have ghosted him after the date ("Foodie Calls")

So in some ways, he's fortunate that she made it obvious that she was just there for the expensive food, so that he didn't pay for it. Some women are worse and will make him think she likes him until after he pays for everything

First dates are coffee. Only.

[–]unklestinky 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You're not gonna get laid with coffee breath. First dates are a few after dinner drinks. Not, white girl wasted just a drink or two.

You ask her what time she's eating dinner. When she says 7:00 you say "Great! Let's meet up for a drink at 9:00."

[–]cauldron_bubble 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

That might not work, because what if she ends up going out with a guy who'll also sit with her for dinner? I see what you mean, but I can also see how your idea might backfire, leaving the guy dateless again.

[–]unklestinky 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

She already knows if she is going to hook up with you before you even asked her out. If she is going to hook up with you it doesn't matter if some dude asked her to dinner if she wants to hook up with you, she'll still meet up.

Think about all the dates you've been on. All the dates when you went home alone. When she pulled out her phone. When she excused herself to go to the restroom. What do you think she was doing? She was making arrangements to meet the guy she was really going to hook up with. Don't be that sad sack spending money on some chick whose never going to put out anyway. If she's going to bang you, you won't need to spend one red cent.

What's worse, not having a date for a night, or being humiliated by being used for a free dinner?

[–]FyrW 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Wow and in Denmark I'm not allowed to pay for dinner. Where are you from?

[–]unklestinky 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wait, what do you mean you're not allowed to pay for dinner? Are people in Denmark legally barred from paying for dinner on dates?

[–]FyrW 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No :)
Most women I've dated take pride in paying half/get offended if you suggest paying

[–]unklestinky 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, I'm in America and let's be honest American women are the worst.

[–]cauldron_bubble 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I actually prefer to delay having sex with the guy until after a few dates.... It just doesn't feel right to me to be that intimate with someone before I've had a chance to get to know them, and before they get to know me.. That way, there's less regret (in my opinion.. I'm not a prude and don't judge people who are ok with sex on first dates, or early in a relationship). I always pay for my own meals, and have on many occasions paid for my date's as well. Keeping things equal has always been a priority to me, I guess, which some guys feel weird about sometimes, but I just do what's right for me, and what I think will leave both parties with as few regrets as possible. Maybe I'm old.. Dating seems so difficult nowadays. One thing I've not been wrong about though, is insisting that everyone gets a clean slate, and that each person doesn't have to suffer for the person I was with before. Sure, I've had to learn lessons along the way, but beginning a relationship with a sense of anger, a combative spirit or with an attitude of "I'll show this one", serves no one, (again, in my opinion).

Are you saying that you've never had a one night stand or slept with someone on a first date? Im going to bet that you have. Almost everyone has at some point. I'll wager that even with your more reserved approach to dating that if you met someone who made you feel all tingly, all those reservations would go right out the window. Unless you're a rare unicorn and have never slept with someone immediately or have never had a one night stand it's a back handed insult to make the guy wait, or making him pay for meals and jump through hoops. You're basically letting that dude know, he's bottom shelf. You'll hook up with him eventually, but there are others who won't have to jump through the same hoops. Me personally, I never want to be the one jumping through hoops. It's my opinion, if a guy is jumping through hoops he's foolish. You'll hook up regardless of how much lobster he tries to shove down your gullet.

but beginning a relationship with a sense of anger, a combative spirit or with an attitude of "I'll show this one", serves no one, (again, in my opinion).

It's not about being combative, it's about being realistic. Not everyone is going on a date with honorable intentions. I've known plenty of women who go on dates with dudes they're not really interested in. They go because it's a free meal, they don't have any real interest, but don't have something better lined up. It's my opinion, you need to be cautious in the dating world.

Dating seems so difficult nowadays.

It's really not though. It's only difficult if your expectation is to have the same relationship that your grandparents had. That style of dating is long dead.

[–]cauldron_bubble 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I had one one night stand years ago, and I felt awful because the guy and I didn't know each other, and he wanted it to go further, but I didn't.. I just wasn't ready for anything like that, and felt that drunk sex with a stranger wasn't smart and unintentionally led to hurt feelings. So after that lesson, I decided that I won't have one night stands ever again. And I hate lobster. 😁 Not to be argumentative.. I just try my best to avoid regret. I didn't think that there was anything wrong with that..

I don't like being pressured into doing anything, especially not when it comes to having sex.. It just doesn't feel right to me.

I don't like the idea that it is a backhanded insult to a guy to refrain from having sex with them until we both feel right about doing so. Conversely, isn't it insulting for someone to expect another person to have sex with them before they are comfortable enough to participate in that?

[–]unklestinky 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm not saying that you should have sex if you don't feel right about it, nor am I saying that someone should guilt/pressure you into it. I'm saying, that you basically know before that first date happens if you would sleep with him. Making him jump through hoops and spend money on you shows your true opinion of him. The reason being, if a guy that was super hot came along you would hook up right away. If you met a celebrity/athlete/rock star or whatever in a club, you wouldn't hesitate to hook up. You wouldn't need to be comfortable with the person, you wouldn't need to get to know them. They most definitely wouldn't have to pay for dinner after dinner before you gave it up. You would ride em like a pony because of who they are. What does that say about the guy you're going to make spend hundreds of dollars and go on date after date after date?

This is why the "Three Date Rule" is such a beautiful thing. If by the end of date three there has not been any progress on the sexy time front, the dude should bail. It's obvious that there's no chemistry, and you should cut and run. If you had chemistry, you would have slept with him, like you do with the guys you have/had chemistry with. If a guy is smart, he'll have managed to not spend any (or at least very little) money on those first three dates. Which is why the meet up after dinner line is great. You don't need to spend money to get to know each other. Paying for a dinner for someone who may never hookup is foolish. And it's my opinion to make a person buy you stuff and jump through hoops, when you would hookup with someone more desirable is insulting.

Just my opinion.

[–]cauldron_bubble 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No! I never know if I'm going to have sex with someone on a first date! And again, I always pay for myself. Always. And what's with the talk of "jumping through hoops?!" If that's what you've been doing, then I am very sorry that that has been your experience! What are people doing nowadays.... I hope you're not over there "jumping through hoops" for anyone; how about if we all just go on dates, be ourselves, observe as our dates are being themselves, and see what happens from there? And no, I don't care how "hot", rich or famous a person is; I'm not going to have sex with someone I don't know well enough to feel comfortable with.

You have such a low opinion of me, and we don't know each other at all.. You've made assumptions about me that are dead wrong.. But I'm going to assume that your opinions are based on your experiences with dating. Please don't project your experiences on me though, ok? I've done nothing wrong to you, and I don't wish anything bad toward you. We just have different opinions and policies when it comes to how we choose to conduct ourselves in regards to dating. I hope that you find someone who treats you with respect, and that from your experience with them, love grows. I hope that you find someone who doesn't take advantage of you, but instead adds to your life as you add to theirs equally. Not all women are monsters, and I hope that you find yourself a unicorn worthy of the absolute best version of you.

[–]unklestinky 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And what's with the talk of "jumping through hoops?!" If that's what you've been doing, then I am very sorry that that has been your experience!

That is just about every guys experience.

You have such a low opinion of me, and we don't know each other at all..

I'm sorry if you think I am personally attacking you. I'm not, you sound like a spectacular and wonderful person. I apologize if it came across as having a low opinion of you. When I say you, I am generalizing large portions of women. I have been friends with many many women and know the games they play. You might not be that way, but that doesn't change that a large large percentage of women are. If I had to guess, I would say people like you are the minority. Sp when I say you would hook up with a rock star, what I really mean is most women would.

But I'm going to assume that your opinions are based on your experiences with dating.

It's not only my dating experiences, but the fact that I tended to (not so much anymore) have many many friendships with women and they were comfortable in telling me how they really are. I had one friend (back in college) who was absolutely stunning. Every guy she met fell in love with her. She confided in me at the end of one fall semester that she had not purchased one meal the entire semester while she was at school. She was able to go out with different guys every night of the week. She would freely admit to going on dates with dudes who she was never going to date. This kind of story is not uncommon from my experiences. It's also my experiences with being a douchebag and seeing the levels women will stoop to. I have been with multiple married women, I have been the guy she's meeting up with after some sad sack buys her dinner, I have been the one that she's done every nasty thing with under the sun before becoming a born again virgin, and almost 100% of the time it has happened on the first or second hangout without jumping through any hoops. At the same time, I also have male friends who try to play the whole nice guy "dating game" who are let down time after time after time and spend dollar after dollar after dollar to get nowhere with these women.

There was this one woman who I hooked up with within an hour of meeting her. We hooked up for a few months, nothing serious just some booty call action. fyi never spent a penny. A few months (maybe a year or two) later, one of my closest friends became interested in her. He spent months and months taking her to movies, dinners, concerts and date after date. He spent tons of time with her, he met her family, if she called he would drop everything to see her. He tried and tried to win her affection and she never took anything to the next level with him. He finally got sick of trying to win her over and gave up and quit talking to her. He knew that her and I had hooked up, and how quickly. How humiliating do you think it was for him to know that she banged me within an hour, but she didn't think he was good enough.

This is what us guys have to deal with.

Not all women are monsters

I am not saying that women are monsters, nor am I saying that hooking up the first night is wrong. Hell, my last girlfriend (who was one of the greatest, most compassionate, generous, empathetic and beautiful women I have ever met in my life) and I hooked up with on the first night we hung out. It was a classic netflix and chill move. We ended up dating for a long time, and I still have nothing but the utmost respect for her. My opinions on dating do not reflect any value judgement on an individual. I'm not a prude on any level. By the way, with her I didn't mind going out to dinner and whatnot. I just didn't spend money on her until I knew she was actually into me. I didn't have to pay her in cash and prizes for us to win her affection.

That is really my point, a guy (or girl) doesn't have to jump through hoops, they don't have to "wine and dine" and they don't have to lavish gifts on you if you are really interested. If a girl is into the guy, she will be with him. She'll have enough respect for him that she won't treat him like a human ATM machine.

This is why I subscribe to the three date rule, and why the "lets meet after dinner" line is so effective. Three dates is enough time to decide if there is chemistry. Also, I am lenient with the three date rule. However, if things aren't on the track to sexytime by date three, it's obvious to me there is no chemistry. Again, just my opinion.

and I hope that you find yourself a unicorn worthy of the absolute best version of you.

and I hope you find some dude that you find so hott that you are thinking naughty thoughts at your second dinner. lol

[–]cauldron_bubble1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

:) No offence taken.. I've heard similar stories from male and female friends, and it's enough to make anyone feel apprehensive about dating.

But I sincerely hope that we find partners who make us feel "tingly" and think naughty thoughts well into our old age. :) Clean slates for everyone, and may our bank accounts ever be in good standing 😁

[–]WideExemplification 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

comments be like

NEVER go for dinner on the first two dates. A friend of mine had this experience in the UK time and time again. Tell them up front and that its Dutch when you do. A decent women who is interested in YOU will understand.

hm pretty good advice

Only once you are in a relationship.will you pay.

Uh crap. And here i thought he was all for equality

If you're dumb enough to take her on a date, buy her a coffee and go for a walk

[–]Lethn 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a great way to deal with the gold diggers actually, every now and then I wonder should I try putting myself out there on tinder but the horror stories are just keeping me well away from the dating scene.

[–]Starcitsoon2 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So exactly what women do? Why is this news?

[–]unklestinky 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The news is mostly gossip in 2018.

[–]Maelshevek 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Title is pretty bad, and the dailymail is cancer, but here's my 2c.

It's poetic justice. She games him for an expensive meal and gets the bill.

Analysis and advice: -Her game was bad, I'm sure there are far more instances where a woman will play a man better than this and get away with what is basically a con. Disgusting. -She picked the restaurant. My guess? It was a unilateral decision. Yellow Alert. -He took her to a fancy restaurant. Women need to earn this kind of treatment. -He didn't play a long game. If women want meals, they will have to pretend for longer to get there. -Always discuss splitting the check before going out, or say that the check is split up front. Commitment test them. Or eat somewhere where you have to order separately.

[–]HappySingleMan[S] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Finally PROGRESS. Men are starting to respect themselves.

[–]Jope-Ga 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would've looked her in the eyes as I ask for separate checks

This is a really good idea and I wish I would of known this years ago when I needed it.

[–]cauldron_bubble 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's best to decide on bill splitting or sharing prior to ordering.. That way it's fair for both parties.

[–]iongnil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I apologise for my crude post but...

Fuck Tinder!

It's grim.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I'm not mad.

However there are 2 things I have qualms about.

  1. If he picked the restaurant he should have picked a less expensive place for a first date. In fact for a first date I would have either cooked at my place and invite her over or picked a place well within my budget like a big chain stop (aka Applebees, Chili's, Olive Garden, etc...)

  2. Even if the date was going down the toilet that is no excuse for him to not at least pay his share of the bill. When he bailed he should have at least had the courtesy of paying his bill and then ghosting out.

[–]Mode1961 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I wonder if he could have went to the waiter and asked for "SARAH".

[–]Leinadro 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

SARAH

Im not sure what that means.

[–]Mode1961 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A few months ago there was some bar/restaurant that had a drink called a Sarah (I think that was the name) and if you (a woman only) ask for that drink it meant you wanted to get out of there as the date wasn't going that well.

[–]Bluebird_North 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There should be a “Sarah” for plotting (edit: splitting) the check. Say it - two checks arrive.

[–]Mode1961 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is an excellent idea.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh yeah I remember that now. Thanks for explaining.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I disagree, if it's obvious she was going for the expensive meals in order to scam him he shouldn't be paying anything, she was committing fraud. As others have said though, you avoid this buy going to a cheap place to begin with.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I suppose we will disagree.

I can certainly understand doing to her what she would have done to him but I just think its disrespectful to the restaurant to skip out on his own share of the bill.

But yeah fuck her and her share of the bill.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I get what you're saying but the restaurant is a business and they'll know how to deal with people like the woman. The best thing is always preventing these types of situations in the first place as other people have been saying.

[–]Leinadro 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get what you're saying but the restaurant is a business and they'll know how to deal with people like the woman.

I can agree with that but that should be between the woman the business and what she ate. Him skipping out on his portion just makes him look bad and dishonest to me.

The best thing is always preventing these types of situations in the first place as other people have been saying.

Very much agreed. Honestly for a first date she wouldn't have gotten anything more than an Applebee's or Chili's tier dinner from me.

[–]Cristoff13 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What he did was better than just paying for the whole thing, but it was still dishonorable (in my opinion) to leave without first paying his share. He should have just put down enough to cover his share, then left. Better yet, he should have told her right at the start when she ordered the overpriced starter, that he wouldn't be paying for her share if she was going to try and take advantage of his hospitality. Just state it matter of fact and stick to it.
