Unprovoked 'one punch' attacks are now subject to harsh penalties in Australia unless the perpetrator is a woman in which case she gets off with a small fine as usual.

What a dire article that is. Justifying murder by speculating different motives between men and women. And failing to acknowledge the fact that women already don't get sentenced as often as men for the same crime. Just pure bullshit.

I saw that and I was like ...why does it matter why they killed someone?

That's an asinine suggestion.

"Men don't rape for the same reasons women do"

You think that sounds off?

"Men don't rape for the same reasons women do"

I'm sure that is a great solace to their victims.

This may be the real reason behind this crap. It's more that they don't care about men when they're victims.

When women kill, it is usually motivated by different factors than when men kill. Women often kill against a backdrop of victimisation and hopelessness – not because they are angry or revengeful.

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." But women only kill abusive males, because the system is completely stacked against them. There are no resources available to women trying to escape from violent men, so they have no option but to kill.

Also, violent newborn babies. Those little fuckers'll slit your throat soon as look atcha. The only defense is to chuck 'em in the nearest Dumpster. If only the poor, poor women had some other choice besides murder.

Tis a sad state of affairs indeed! Will no one think of the poor, defenseless (but also strong and independent) women!?!

The good thing is even the comment section of The Guardian takes this piece apart:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jun/01/why-we-should-close-womens-prisons-and-treat-their-crimes-more-fairly#comments

the bad thing is the author

Professor Mirko Bagaric is the Director of the Evidence-Based Sentencing and Criminal Justice Project. He is also the Director of Research at the Swinburne University Law School.

"fundamental differences between men and women" supposedly don't exist and your a bigot for thinking so when we're talking about working at Google, but when it comes to prison it's totally legit!

[–]orcscorper 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Male and female brains are literally exactly the same. Exactly. It is only social conditioning that makes men inferior in every way to glorious, strong, beautiful womyn.

But, male criminals should rot in prison, while we come up with creative new ways to coddle wimmin.

[–]tenchineuro 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Female incarceration numbers are at record highs and climbing. Dean and Head of School of Law at Deakin University, Dr Mirko Bagaric, thinks that the undeniable differences between men and women when it comes to committing crime should be reflected in a fundamentally different approach to the sentencing of women.

And so we see the start of the Australian Bench Book.

Isn’t it sexist to treat men and women differently?

There is a difference between treating male and female criminals equally and treating them equitably. Equally is when the same punishment is handed down. Equitably is when the punishment handed down impacts the two groups to the same extent. In short: equal means ‘exactly the same’ whereas equitable means ‘fair’. It is a misguided sense of equality to suggest that female offenders should be treated the same as males.

Yes, some women in the community commit acts that seriously damage others. And yes, they require harsh treatment. But this justifies Australia having one female jail – not a dozen.

So we have to treat women 'equitably' to treat them equally? WTF?

Finally, implementing changes to the sentencing system that will benefit women does not necessarily prejudice men. The opposite is the case. Reforms will prompt a reassessment of all sentencing principles for non-violent and non-sexual offenders – including men. This is the only tenable approach to dealing with Australia’s prison overcrowding crisis.

This is almost certainly a flat-out lie.

Yes. And they are very (very) aware of it. The only time men's sentences change is when women are forced to the same standard. Without the sympathy women get, men's plight is gleefully ignored.

Back in the 70's there used to be a "prison abolition" movement.

No one actually thought it would succeed; but the idea was that we could do better than punishment. Everyone recognized that there are indeed psychos; but people also recognized that most imprisoned men (especially those with drug convictions) were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Today, feminists demand prison abolishment -- BUT ONLY FOR WOMEN. This is obscene. This is the very definition of inequality.

Don't forget Philip Davies speech about this topic in the UK in Westminster Hall:

This part of the speech is really good but it's really good in its entirety.

It would be funny to see if a female killed that authors loved one and still see them advocate this same bs that women are only angels.

Isn't Australia a prison?

[–]rbrockway[S] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So a British man gets off a plane and walks to an immigration desk at the airport in Sydney.

The Australian immigration officer looks carefully over the man's passport and says "Do you have a criminal record?"

The British man says "I didn't know you still needed one to get in!"

I don’t play this shit. Commit murder and your ass is in jail. Adult women get less time than male minors.

[–]KingRobotPrince 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm trying to will myself to believe that these people don't also hold the view that women can do anything men can do job wise. Otherwise they're essentially twisted individuals.

[–]NathanRav 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just my opinion. If a woman is shitty enough to get a jail sentence society could do without them giving birth. God knows they are probably going to damage that child. It really really isn't that hard to stay out of prison, especially as a woman. If they are in jail they are more than likely fairly rotten women.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah cuz women that kill their children to spite their husband/boyfriend are totally not doing that for revenge. Naw, nothing to see here folks. Women are victimized angels that can do no wrong. Move along. /s
