He's lucky he only got 6 months. I've heard of people getting 15 years for a phone. They treat it as an escape attempt.

[–]CryptoMonger 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

They try to make everything out as an escape attempt. I knew a girl they threatened because she was resting in a laundry cart.

That’s why you don’t privatize prisons

[–]Diesel-66 -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

This has nothing to do with private prisons.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're wrong, this is a largely influenced by private prison lobbying. In the prison-industrial complex you have the worst parts of the private industry influencing the worst parts of government.

The lower the threshold you set to define an act as an "escape attempt" the more you can justify holding them longer and extracting additional profits from the government. It's a direct incentivization that rewards investors for depriving the maximum amount of people of their freedoms and voting rights.

7% of prison population doesn't have that much power. The state is more than enough to push their own bs

One of the biggest lobbyist is the union state correctional employees

[–]maxcorrice 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yes, it does, they get paid by the inmate

[–]Diesel-66 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Private prisons are a tiny percent of prisons. Public prisons act the exact same way

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But the private prison industry lobbies for stricter laws and harsher mandatory sentencing to maximize profits.

Seems you might be right about this particular instance though since it was in Wales. My fault for not reading the article beforehand, that being said, in the US the two issues are closely related.

[–]Diesel-66 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The union employees lobby for the same exact thing. They are one of the largest lobbyist force.

I'm talking about the us mostly. Private prisons have very little power compared to the public union prisons

[–]maxcorrice -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

18% isn’t tiny

[–]Diesel-66 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

18% of federal prisons which are under 200k total.

7% of State prisons which have 1.3 million

[–]maxcorrice 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That’s still not tiny

[–]Diesel-66 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

7% is tiny compared to 93% of public union

[–]subthrowaway321 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Other than the fact it does?

[–]Diesel-66 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The court system that punished him isn't private

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most bullshit surrounding incarceration is because of private prisons. Stop being so jaded.

[–]Diesel-66 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

7% of State prisons are private. It's pretty obvious that most bs in prisons happen in public prisons.

[–]FordGourde -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

That's why you don't have prisons at all.

No human has the right to lock another human in a cage because they did something they didn't like.

[–]mrwhibbley 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

So what should happen to someone that rapes and murders a bunch of children?

[–]Sarin_G_Series 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

Outlaw and exile.

Edit: my mistake, I read this as "what COULD be..." rather than "what SHOULD be..."

[–]mrwhibbley 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

What does that mean? Exile from the group? If no one has a right to lock someone up for murder, then would I be ok murdering the person that murdered the children? After all, it's not like I would be locked up.

[–]Sarin_G_Series 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Outlaw means that the law no longer protects that person or their property from anyone.

[–]mrwhibbley 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

But if there is no prison then what stops me from kidnapping this raping murderer and kicking him up in my basement and torturing him forever? What would be my punishment?

[–]FordGourde 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Shit like that wouldn't happen. In a perfect world, along with the absence of prisons, there would be no money. No laws. Everybody would grow their own food. People wouldn't feel the need to rape and murder people. If they did for some reason, they would be exiled.

[–]Sarin_G_Series -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Anyone who wanted could kill you or worse, and take your property from any family you had.

Edit: after a trial.

Edit 2: I'm not advocating for bringing back the practice of outlawing, I'm just saying there are alternatives to prison.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So, once you are convicted of rape and murder, then you can just go around murdering as many people as possible before someone takes you out? That sounds like a good plan.

[–]Sarin_G_Series -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not advocating it, and you know it. That said, you could do the same now; the only difference is that, under the current penal code, someone would be punished for killing the murdering rapist without due process or catching them in the act.

Edit: my bad, it totally looked like I was advocating it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

.... Yes, because punishing people for murder just doesn't make sense ....

[+]FordGourde -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't. You don't know why that person killed someone. They could have had a very good reason. But also, as I previously stated, in a perfect society nobody would feel the need to murder.

[–]couch_biscuit 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well guess what, we don’t live in a perfect society. and as for finding the reason for a murder, that’s what the trial is for.

[–]FordGourde -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

LOL okay. Besides the fact that people who are innocent get convicted of crimes every day, a trial is just a jury of your "peers" that don't want to be there in the first place, listening to two sides of a story and believing one of them. If you believe in our justice system, you're the biggest cuck of them all. A bootlicking cuck.

[–]couch_biscuit 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And we got to name calling already. I can tell whatever I say isn’t going to sway your opinion, so I won’t bother.

[–]mwobuddy 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They were obviously having a sexual relationship.

THerefore she was raping him and it should be she gets years prison for raping inmates. According to law, inmates cant consent.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

If it was a male prison officer caught doing this, I expect the same outcome.

I think this is more about inmates and prison guards than it is about males and females.

[–]Eraser-Head 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Sentencing Judge Williams said Shauna Cleary had been "terribly compromised and vulnerable to being manipulated".

Look, the poor girl was compromised. Somehow. They don't mention how.

Wow, everpedia is worse than the dailymail, it looks like if she'd done a sex tape you'd see in in the article. How thorough.

[–]Eraser-Head 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In this case it is. You’re imagining something that did not happen and molding it to your narrative. All I’m saying is, save the pitchforks for real examples.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whole world full of free men, and she goes for the bad boys. Color me shocked...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think this is more "blue line" privilege

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats not the only things shes smuggling in. Wowzer.

[+]Diesel-66 -10 points-9 points-8 points 8 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Different crimes. Not to mention one has a criminal record

[–]nforne 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Let's try gender-flipping and see what happens. Male guard passes phone to female inmate. Male guard gets slap on wrists, female inmate gets custodial.

I can already hear the shrieking of the feminists behind Women In Prison and similar misandrist organisations. Not content with women being the tiny minority of inmates, they actively campaign to keep women (and only women) out of prison altogether. But cell-time is fine for men, it's practically our natural habitat, not harmful in the slightest. We seem to enjoy it.

[–]Eraser-Head 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hyperbolic

[–]nforne 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really? Check out Women In Prison and the Corston Report. They actually got Scotland to take on Baroness Jean Corston's recommendations, and do away with women's prisons. Check out the articles that sympathetic feminist journalists publish in mainstream press (BBC, Guardian etc) about the plight of women in prison, and how they cherry pick statistics to make it seem like women have it worse.

[–]Diesel-66 -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who cares what the harpies think? Think for yourself.

Long term criminal vs first crime

[–]trevorsandler2016[S] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Shouldn't prison officers be held to a higher standard than inmates?

[+]Diesel-66 -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes but it's still a much different crime.

Read the article

[–]trevorsandler2016[S] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm not saying they are the exact same crime but usually drug smugglers get high sentences than consumers. Shouldn't it work the same with prison contraband. Ex. A police officer who smuggles drugs to a user should get a harsher sentence than the user.

[–]AmbitiousPlankton 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Police + Female = Pussy Pass Plus

[+]Diesel-66 -9 points-8 points-7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Simply being in prison you lose a lot of rights. So small issues become huge if a prisoner does it.

[–]mikesteane -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is a big issue for innocent men in particular.

[–]boringcarpets 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No one is saying its the same crime, but prisoners are considered "vulnerable people" and prison officers are in positions of power, she has abused her power and enabled a prisoner to break the rules. Drug dealing is more of a crime than drug use

[–]Drekalo 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Didn't you read the article??? It's the other way around man. As a corrections officer she was "terribly compromised and vulnerable to manipulation."

[–]PMmepicsofyourtits 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How? He's not a fucking wizard.

[–]Diesel-66 -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

He asked her to bring a phone. How was he vulnerable?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How was her prisoner vulnerable? Really? I mean, I realize he's a man, and she's just a little tiny weak willed woman, but she had authority over him.

Man, how helpless do you need to see women in order to overlook her abuse of authority?

[–]Diesel-66 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And he used her to get a phone. They were using each other

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The one with all the authority was just a victim in this... really?

[–]boringcarpets 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

...he's in prison, he has limited freedoms, the staff literally have a "duty of care", prisoners must be safeguarded from neglect and abuse. i mean, are you simple?

I get that people in general don't tend to care about prisoners, but they're not banished, theyre often in rehabilitation, theyre in a vulnerable position

[–]Diesel-66 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

He's serving a 10 year sentence for home invasion. He's not the vulnerable party in the situation

[–]boringcarpets 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I reiterate that you are a simpleton; he literally is.

You're mixing all sorts of things there, he's convicted of a crime, yes, but that has nothing to do with anything, just because he did a home invasion doesn't mean that he, as a prisoner isn't in a vulnerable position. You're willfully ignorant. No one's calling him a victim of crime, but the advantage was taken by a person in power... the guard... you know, the uniformed person in charge of enforcing the rules? I mean, you are aware of what custody is, aren't you?
