Belgium tries to recover the cost of its prosecutions from those convicted but Lhermitte is insolvent.

It says the money should come from Lhermitte's share of the sale of their house.

I don't find this outrageous. She has to pay, doesn't have money, but owns part of the house. The state doesn't want to take the money from the ex-husband, but from her estate.

Not really a mens rights thing.. Yeah a man got screwed by his wife. But it is not untypical for creditors to go to family members of the debtor to receive payment. It's common practice.

This is why a lot of people buy life insurance, so when they die, they won't pass their debts on to their kids.

Misleading title. Article says the government goes after all criminals to fund their trials, they haven't singled her out. They are not trying to get the money from the ex-husband but from the wife's half of the property sale. That half isn't his, unless he sues her for damages for the loss of his children.
