I got a prenup before my second marriage. Advice of my lawyer said that the courts will not enforce an "unconscionable contract" so I need to be "fair" in my prenup. I smirked and then asked my lawyer how it is that the courts enforce the usual divorce, which, if placed into a prenup would be consider unconscionable. He laughed, then sighed, and told me that I have a damn good point.

Also: Some courts have thrown out prenups signed "too close" to the wedding, as they decided that it became duress. ("too close" has ranged from days to months!)

They aren't fool proof. As your standard of living changes throughout the marriage or the marriage goes on for an extended period of time they become less and less valid. Furthermore if you allow your wife to depend on you for a lifestyle, that can invalidate the contract as circumstances have changed after the marriage (and she has come to rely on you).

Best bet: Never let her stop working, get the sharkiest attorney in town to write up a downright brutal prenup. However if they are too one sided, well, then it might get thrown out. Force her to ask you for one too. Videotape the signing and require that she read the terms and insist that she have an attorney look at the document before signing.

Nowhere near as good as not marrying. Take a minute to think of what are the benefits of marriage to a man. There are none. Marriage is nothing more than a status symbol for women...it's a symbol to her that if you even think about leaving her you are gonna pay for it dearly. Kinda like a lifetime break-up insurance policy for women.

Don't get married. 2. If you do make the wrong decision and get married, at least marry someone who makes roughly the same money or more than you do, and don't ever tolerate that person becoming a dependent for any extended length of time.
