I’ve been thinking about this due to feminist always saying we live in a patriarchy. While certainly men hold a majority of government and business positions of power, that ignores the reality that they’re subject to the social pressures placed on them. When I think about it, I’ve found that despite these men being in positions of power, they are subject to a society that values women more. Women are essentially an untouchable protected class that is catered too by virtually every level of society. From education, to finances, to law, women are likely to be favored over men. Women now make up the majority of college students, undoubtedly due to the academic environment being openly hostile to young men. Companies actively seek to limit the amount of men they hire, especially young white men. Women are not required to register for selective service, aka the draft (and I doubt that despite what’s being reviewed in Congress, that won’t change). They’re favored in most matters of law, given lesser sentences for the same crimes, favored in family law, and in some cases it’s near impossible to convict a women of sexual assault or abuse. Criticism of an indictable woman are often considered sexist. Women, especially white women, are also the biggest benefiters of affirmative action.
