For me, yes. Been there, dealt with that, never want a hint of it in my life again. Even "open to monogamy or non-monogamy" on a dating profile gets the ol' swipe-left treatment.

He's mentioning it to see how you would respond because that's his ideal. If that's a complete no-go for you, you should say that, and then privately decide whether you're willing for a guy to "settle" for being loyal to you. (There's no right or wrong answer there, but you should be aware he likely has a high novelty drive. That said, continually winning commitment never ends for any woman.)

What kind of dating are you doing? Is it clear you're "serious relationship only, marriage-minded"? Or is this more "feel it out and have fun" dating?

He was probably trying to start a conversation with you about it. I'd ask him if he still wanted that, and if he said yes, I would have to decide if I was comfortable with that. If he admitted to being dishonest or violent, that would be red flags, but open vs closed relationship is just a matter of values and personal boundaries. You are allowed to decide it's not for you and let him know.

I wouldn’t necessarily say it is a red flag. However, I don’t have all the information here. Does he still want one? Or has he regretted trying it out and realized he prefers only one partner at time? People experimenting with things like that help them figure out who they are. It doesn’t mean he necessarily wants another open relationship.

Yes. 100%. Because it meant he valued what he wanted over his partner. He has shown to be selfish when it suited him.
