I had a mystifying experience the other night and thought I would post it here to see if I'm crazy or what.

The woman in question = Nice, fairly normal post-wall single female, a friend of mutual friends.

The group = About a dozen non-close friends and friends-of-friends, a mix of male and female.

The woman in question (Let's call her Princess) has her first big home dinner date with her new guy. They've been flirting for a while and she really likes him and things have heated up, so she's inviting him to her place after a couple of dates at restaurants and clubs. She cooks dinner and then the guy calls and says sorry, one of his family (Sibling) has a serious health problem and he's been called over to help (I don't want to get too specific but it was a Bad Thing). He has to go over NOW, but will come by her place after. Time passes and he calls to check in again, says the situation is bad and he will be another hour at least. She pitches a fit and turns her phone off. He tries to call a couple more times but she refuses to talk to him.

She is out with us talking about what an "asshole" this guy was. I hear the story and say, "Hey, this sounds like a good thing. If he was just trying to dodge a date with you, then fine, you're both better off. But if his excuse was real, it sounds like he's a solid guy who puts his family first. He could have had a free dinner and maybe sex but instead he rushed to the hospital to be with people that needed him, that says to me he's a decent dude."

ALL of her friends jump on me for this. Every single one of them is telling her she's totally right to be pissed off, that he's an asshole, that he should have put her first (After a couple of dates? GTFO), that he should have told his family to handle it themselves, and that he's just a terrible person for not putting Princess first.

I am fucking agog at this, because I do NOT understand how I am the only person there with a dissenting opinion and they're all busy blowing up Princess's ego and telling her how she's a poor little snowflake who got treated terribly. And this by a dude who took time to call repeatedly to check in with her and tell her what was going on.

It was one opinion vs 12. Who's crazy, them or me?

Edit: And as of this evening, you want the punchline to this stupid story? Princess just FLIRTED with me this afternoon and said we should go out together for drinks sometime. I am happily MARRIED and she knows this. What the FUCK is wrong with some people???

Although, I guess if I look at it in TRP terms, I'm unattainable, pre-selected, she knows I make good money, and I've just demonstrated an unwillingness to put her on a pedestal. I may have accidentally executed Game without even thinking about it.
