Funny how the comment made is that PUA lifestyle is to blame.

[–]foghorn19 40 points40 points40 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Of course. Women are NEVER to blame for ANYTHING. The Emperor is immaculately dressed.

[–]OKJaded 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No one can buy if no one is selling. Stop selling sex for 10 minutes of attention.

[–]MartialWay 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wasn't PUA just something that put our smarter, more productive nerds on a level playing field with our douchebags?

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

While I can see how the PUA lifestyle could contribute to women damaging themselves with sluttery. The fact of the matter is is that modern society has removed all the restrictions including stigmas associated with premarital sex.

The way I see it is PUA lifestyle could have only arose when those restrictions were lifted and not be what caused those restrictions to be lifted (that was thanks to Feminism). It may be that the PUA lifestyle is aggravating factor making sluttery even more damaging but women have to choose that lifestyle first.

[–]BenchPress400 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

PUA lifestyle is definitely a symptom of the actions of women. In extremely conservative societies where casual sex is frowned upon and women aren't promiscuous, I doubt PUAs are very prevalent.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. PUA started because women were fucking all the natural bad boys anyway; other men just wanted to get in on the action

[–]RP_Magnus 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No kidding. Monogamy is a cultural construct. The more sex you have the more you realize how difficult LTR are. The more your eyes are open to human nature.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is my biggest issues with the "People who sleep around just enjoy sex, you shouldn't shame us, its just a preference, when we're ready to settle down we will!" crowd that parrots that opinion. Most women I have seen who have an extreme desire to sleep around also suffer from insecurity and other issues that frankly make them difficult to marry.

[–]hermit087 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If women became chaste overnight, men would become WifeUp Artists

This sums it up for me. "PUA's"(I don't like using that acronym) did not create the current sexual marketplace. They merely reacted to it.

kind of a repost:

/r/TheRedPill/comments/1tknbr/the_harmful_effects_of_early_sexual_activity_and/

Age of first intercourse seems to be the major cause of slutiness. The notch count is IMHO a followup result: you start early when you know nothing about life and consequences, you get a high notch count at the point, where you realize this is a problem. The alternative would be that some women are promiscuous by genetics, but I do not believe that to be true.

It's the early sexualisation of children and feminism and "progressive" ideologies are pushing that into the kindergarten curriculum. It's as if there was a bunch of pedos on the political left pushing for more underaged sluts...

I like this twitter comment:

this graph is about women. If women became chaste overnight, men would become WifeUp Artists

More sex before marriages = less successful marriages. PUA lifestyle causes deliberate and irreparable harm

  • Only assholes are going out to clubs with the intention of hurting women. I sleep good at night knowing I'm not one of those assholes, although I tend to sleep even better with a girl wrapped around me. When I wake up and go to to take a piss and I have that same kinda feeling you get when you get off a boat and could swear there was something inside you still rocking around on the waves, and it's my body failing to realize there isn't a living, breathing 9/10 blanket on me anymore, I feel a lot of emotions. Shame isn't one of them.
  • This data is likely skewed by the fact that women can just say that they're hurt by whatever happened and it doesn't have to make sense, and if you question them about it you're being sexist and insensitive.
  • I don't think there is anything deliberate going on here other than deliberately learning how to get laid, which is literally the point of existence. We were created to create more of us, so get fucking used to it.
  • Irreparable means it's impossible to repair, not that it's just hard to. Reading up on why men and women act the way they do and not letting yourself get hurt is not irreparable. Brain damage from head trauma is irreparable, although if the brain damage and head trauma comes from bashing your face against your keyboard when you read shit like this it's at least understandable.

Alright, I'll be the one to say it. Since we here at TRP abide by science, it must be said: correlation does not equal causation. If women who have had more sexual partners are more likely to be depressed, it's just as possible that depressed women are more likely to sleep around.

[–]real-boethius 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The studies actually corrected for neuroticism and other psychological traits in the woman and the men and found a strong effect even after taking these factors into account.

In any case, even if sleeping with lots of men is not the cause, but only a reliable indicator of marital instability, it is still a good idea to let someone else marry the sluts.

[–]2insickness 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, but that's not really the problem here with correlation versus causation. Even though there is correlation, the two may be completed unrelated. For example, it could be that poor women are both more likely to be depressed and likely to be more promiscuous. That doesn't mean that promiscuity caused the depression. If you're middle class and meeting women who are middle class, there may be no correlation between promiscuity and depression. There could even be a negative correlation that's skewed by poor women. Not saying this is the case, just pointing out that correlation isn't evidence of anything.

[–]real-boethius 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My point is "who cares why?". A woman being promiscuous is a very good indicator that she will be a disloyal wife. The direction of causation doesn't matter.

You are just repeating a slogan (correlation is not causation) without thinking about the implications in this case.

Maybe being a disloyal fucked up person causes you to be both promiscuous and disloyal. Even so, you should avoid such people, unless you have very strong evidence they are loyal.

[–]wonderfulish 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When you look at correlations, an important value is the R-squared value. It sort of looks at how much variability in a trend can be explained by a particular variable. If something is correlated and has an r-squared of 0.90, then you can say that 90% of the effect can likely be explained by the other variable. This means that even though you cannot prove that there is causation, 90% of the time, a change in one will occur with a change in the other. So correlation analyses may not prove anything, but they provide excellent predictive capability and are very informative.

People always pull out the "correlation isn't causation" line and then they forget to actually fucking think about what a correlation analysis tests for. They just dismiss great evidence of an association because they don't really understand statistics.

I'm not saying that you do not understand statistics (I only do on a minimal level), but a lot of fucking idiots throw out that line and dismiss great data.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

correlation does not prove causation. but it does suggest it

Alternatively: a Societal Force causes both promiscuity and mental illness in women.

I'll give you three guesses. And the first two don't count.

[–]lawofmurray 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is why you look at the metadata. Since the 60s, premarital and nonmarital sex has skyrocketed; if there was no causal between promiscuity and divorce / infidelity / marriage dissatisfaction rates, then we'd expect those rates to be the same in the 1960s as they are today.

But they're not. Marriage rates are down, divorce rates are up, infidelity within marriage is up. There are confounding variables in play- for instance, that there is no longer a social stigma for being a single mother- but it's quite likely given the trends that increased promiscuity is a major contributing factor to the problem.

And like another poster mentioned, it doesn't matter how much the correlation indicates causation, because the possession of those traits means lower odds of marriage success. Marriage is already a risky enough business proposition.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly and thats entirely correct. Its not that happy, well adjusted people sleep around then become depressed. Its that depressed, difficult to live with people sleep around because they struggle to form long term relationships.

[–]AVeryMadFish 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No data on men?

[–]puaSenator 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

From what I recall, it's about the same for men.

[–]real-boethius 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From what I recall the man's sexual history did not make much of a difference. The man's neuroticism did make a difference (as it did for women).

[–]WAFC 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where can I find a readable version of that graphic?

EDIT: Never mind, I zoomed and could read it. Still would like a better version if anyone has it.

[–]Evolved_Red1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So... a study that has the summation that (PUA) men = bad, but doesn't have any PUA men in it's algorithm, is then correct and factual?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well, you know what they say. sluttery will get you nowhere.

[–]toysjoe 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For those of you interested, I've uploaded the entire study.

Ah, of course, blame the Pick Up Artists. Let's also blame Oppenheimer for Russia's nukes.

Pick Up Artists learned the rules and used them for success. Sorry that society hates when people do that, and tell us so on iphones brought to them by engineers.
