A good one to start with is Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed The Art of War.

I actually did what you're looking to do around ten years ago. I spent around two years reading mostly about strategy / military history and thinking about how to apply it to my field. I think it was incredibly valuable experience.

John Boyd is the best place to start because he not only was a military genius, but spent all his time theorizing about how strategy applied everywhere else. He gave a famous presentation over and over that you can find online, and there are several other books about his ideas (The Mind of War is a good one). He talks about outthinking opponents generally based on his experiences as a fighter pilot, and emphasizes flexibility in decisionmaking / preserving options / forcing opponents to react to you.

Other good ones are Grant Takes Command and Grant Moves South, The Book of Five Rings, generally read up on Patton (grab 'em by the nose, kick 'em in the ass is Boyd's expected / unexpected theory), A War Like No Other.

Also, check out the United States Marine Corps Reading List. It's the best resource for this possible. It recommends books about what marines need to know at each level, and the senior officer stuff is mostly strategy and is what the Marines are reading to teach themselves about this.

I just started reading HBR's 10 Must-read essays "On Strategy". I am only on the first, but it seems like a pretty technical discussion of strategy at a business level with examples.

I'm reading "The Dictators Handbook." It's an excellent book which talks about how someone can get into power, what mistakes not to make, and how to maintain power. It tells us why some dictators last decades in power even though their people are very unhappy.

It gave me a lot of clarity about international politics. I think you'll like it.

I enjoyed the hell out of Greene's first three big books, and if you like how "33 Strategies" is structured, I highly recommend "The 48 Laws of Power" for an overall guidebook, and "The Art of Seduction" for dealing more intimately with people (but not necessarily in a romantic way).

Beyond that, I recommend just making a note of anything that Greene quotes in his books, since they're really just anthologies/meta-analyses of existing texts. There's no shortage of references from the introductions, side stories, examples, etc. Personally I have a list that's almost three pages long of specific texts to follow up on, or simply names of people to look into further because they stood out to me from Greene's works in one way or another.

Literally every book on sales and politics is relevant to game. In fact, I find sales and game 100% indistinguishable and I find politics 100% identical on the backend.

A great but little known book is called The Craft of Power. Look into it. It goes into more detail than Greene's books.

Other books on game theory, a branch of economics which is the study of strategic decision making.
