I've posted in the past on my wife's reluctance to have another kid while she's in school (part time, online).

This morning she told me we could start working on having another kid next month (my son turned three this month) instead of waiting another year til she graduates. The condition was that I stop playing video games at all except for 3 times a year (I don't know where she got that arbitrary number).

I know video games are a waste of time. I probably play four hours a week on average, though. So I offered to limit it to no more than an hour on the day I played, and only play once the kids are asleep.

She counter offered for me to only play on weekend nights when the kids are asleep. I accepted, and then she backed out citing being turned off to the whole idea because I wasn't just willing to not play games at all in exchange for having another kid. I just said fine and walked out of the room.

  1. Something bothers me about her setting terms like that for having another kid. Am I wrong to be bothered?

  2. Should any of this be a warning sign?

  3. How did I handle the situation?

  4. What elements of TRP can I apply to make this play out better?

Thanks.

Edit: I am now not being particularly chatty with her, but not acting like I'm upset either.

Edit 2: I should have mentioned that she's on an IUD, and she said she'd take it out next month on the aforementioned condition.
