I've been a long time lurker, this sub changed my life. Anyway, I've run into a snag and I'm honestly not sure how to proceed.

I've recently moved, and made a new friend. This friend, let's call him "Mark", is a great dude. Unfortunately, Mark has massive hang-ups about a girl that is not at all interested in him. She's interested in me.

They've never dated, and it's obvious he has serious oneitis. He talks about her constantly, writes songs about her, etc. She sees him as nothing more than a friend, they've been spending time together for a few months roughly. He's waiting for her to come around, he's convinced it's going to happen. The first time I met this girl, all three of us were hanging out. Me and her hit it off, and it was obvious she was giving me signs. Mark is very upset about this, and has repeatedly expressed I absolutely cannot touch under any circumstances. She belongs to him.

This was weeks ago. Recently, she found me on social media and we've gotten in touch. She wants to push things forward, and I'll admit I haven't really considered his feelings up until this point. I guess what I'm getting at is:

Is it not-cool to hook up with a girl your friend is seriously crushing on?

I don't want to hurt him, but at the same time she doesn't belong to him, she can see whoever she wants, she just happens to want to see me. I'm worried if I followed through with this it's going to ruin our budding friendship.
