The last line of the title is your most powerful statement given how your prefaced it. For me, it was I’ve spent 18 years with this woman. She didn’t want to work on anything and made a decision that affects my life so drastically without consulting me or anything. So be it. I envisioned the rest of my life with her mind you but I accepted her decision and decided for myself that I wouldn’t let her waste more of my time than is necessary. Divorce and pets where my boundaries and didn’t entertain…

My ex wanted a divorce after 18 years but couldn’t afford to file the filing fees with the court because she saved all the money for herself when she secretly planned her exit. Didn’t want to do lawyers and such luckily for me but I didn’t want to wait so I just paid a paralegal they a divorce prep company locally to handle everything. You need to be in agreement with how everything is split, including personal debts which seems viable for you. I paid it all to not worry about a thing and viola …

That is not your best friend like others have stated my brother. You are weak and broken and value something inherently worthless. You need to cultivate a better relationship with yourself so that you don’t have such abysmally low standards or love or friendship. My heart hurts to read this for you as a person not for your “loss”. What is there to miss? I’m guessing you’re a person that only gives themselves maybe 10% so when someone else matches that you accept it because it’s all you give your…

People would be hesitant to want to bring things up like my brothers but I personally enjoyed talking about things. Tell him no boozing or anything. Time to level up. In general support and check ins are simple but overwhelmingly awesome.

Fuck yes! Absolutely you got this! Godspeed brother & a big hug to you as well. It’s 5am and getting ready to go walk at a park a couple hours before I go to work. Small gem for me. When I’d be ruminating a bunch, I figured I’d get some exercise. Couldn’t do much my asthma was so bad but this was a game changer for me. Now I do it for myself and listen to audio books, podcasts, music & prayer. That hasn’t changed and lost about 46 pounds & about 16% body fat. If this helps you, a practice I love…

The speed of your recovery will be relative to your ability to pursue and maintain personal goals. Eat healthy, get buff, read books, learn a language, get closer to God, develop relationships with family and old friends, start a new hobby OR since you seemed to self abandon like I did (also put my ex beezy thru school haha) pick up all the old shit you left behind, learn an instrument… I mean it’s literally endless my brother. But it’s as simple as were you divert your attention. Which isn’t av…

I’m 39 and got my testosterone checked and it’s 983 natural. I walk every morning and so cold showers and sauna. I was also very ill until moment of separation (home cleanliness & allergies to cats; ex was lousy), so I mention that all to say I too was compromised and after a few months I did lab work and found I didn’t do it. You can buy a one person sauna on Costco for like 200$ I love that damn thing and sauna is showed to help boost test amongst other benefits. Do it natural unless you need …

Literally force your attention onto yourself and move on. You clench the past and suffer that you haven’t let go. It’s painful of course & im sorry to hear you have to go thru this but you must let go. It’s like a shipwreck and you’re hanging on to a chest of trinkets sinking to the bottom of the ocean. At one point those things were valuable but now it’s your life that is in question. Let the fuck go and choose to live. Slowly and deliberately things will change. My love to you really. Set some…

I’m sorry to hear you having to go thru this brother. Not done mourning one death and then you get kicked in the balls. My ex wife called me her best friend and best thing that ever happened to her all the whilst breaking the news during a week that mu mom was hospitalized. She is healthy again thank God. I saw this to show that we were very close and despite being amiable. I filed (her decision to divorce but couldn’t afford it) as a joint dissolution with a prep service but she did some… provo…

I was blinded sided as well. I asked her 3 times when she dropped the news on me a random Thursday close to thanksgiving. I had just gotten in a car accident and someone hit me totaling my car and my mother was hospitalized due to a stroke the week she told me. 😂😂 when it rains it pours, No arguments or anything. She ended up monkey branching and spent Christmas with another man about a month later. Anyways, the preface is just to say that I’m grateful I can say I had dignity during the split/di…

The mind will wander without purpose. It gets better but it’s truly a choice and commitment. You have to accept some painful things like what was had is gone and dead. It’s difficult of course but it’s worse to remain as is. Build my brother. You will see whatever you cast your gaze upon. Turn your attention to yourself. Get a little “fuck you” energy to light the flame and then keep the fire alive for yourself. You got this. You fucking got this.

Love this. Onward and upward. Less than a week away from the divorce being finalized so strangely (or maybe not) been a heavy week but still doing my due diligence to eat well, exercise & enjoy my time and be grateful. Which isn’t difficult to be honest. I think sometimes the moments catch me by surprise because overall I’m so much better in every aspect since we separated 8 months ago and have been able to move forward with mostly peace but it’s still overall fresh I suppose. I remember telling…

There will be random bad days and in the beginning mostly bad days. Your feelings will form depending on the perspective you take moving forward as well. I don’t think I’ve read someone on here claim they were perfect. If you feel some guilt, then feel what you need but learn the lesson. To carry forward. Something that helped me and what hit me most about your post was the regret of wasted time. 18 years for me but I absolutely REFUSE to let her claim any more of my time. Of course I ruminate b…

I don’t knew your situation but to try and do something may result in a greater pain my brother. The acknowledgment that it’s over is painful but sobering and the realization will help you trek thru the mud. Your heart is well meaning but it’s leading you from a position that you no longer hold. I personally treated it as regular of a day as a could. Wrote a poem and went on a long walk/hike. I prayed and eat a good healthy & hearty meal. I thought of my future and possibilities and who I wanted…

I wish you didn’t pay the bond but yeah brother, I’m sorry. Sounds like a hell of a storm to start an already shit situation like divorce. Now you know she has no regard for you, even when you do something “kind” like not press charges, agree to pack a bag etc etc. with her it will be the bottom line and by any means necessary so please learn that from this interaction. The hits that knock people out are the ones you don’t see. She got the sucker punch in but keep your guard up and if she soften…

Well it’s not where you want to be but it’s not the starting line my brother. You won’t be disillusioned moving forward with potential outcomes but realized realities as they present themselves. You’re moving from a position of truth as painful as it’s been to get here. Nothing should be assumed moving forward and enjoy your victories in retrospect after things are realized. You fucking got this. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this but use the fuel and keep moving forward. This too is a vi…

If earnings are equal or close to equal then you should be fine but seek legal advice. Also California is 6mo mandatory time frame between filing and official date of divorce. Spousal support I believe is to balance quality of life if one earns more than the other.

The old self dies and a new man is born. Shape yourself. Might as well with the time and feelings you’re going to be having anyhow. We base our whole identities as committed, loving husbands and sacrifice ourselves to a point of naivety I’ve found. When we are stripped of the role we find ourselves empty but it’s just a title. Choose to live for yourself and become something greater. Let her see she was wrong. Take her off the pedestal and place yourself on there. The iron is hot my friend, pick…

Allow it to amputate the care and love and image you have in your chest for a person that no longer exists. Her memory will continue to want to fill that void. Fill it with other things. Rediscover old passions you had and neglected and sacrificed yourself for. My brother… your math is wrong. You’re giving 100% while she’s giving single digit % of effort at best. Sounds like she expends more energy bitching than helping 😂 Your value is still tied to her evaluation of you. You need to view from your own position not her delusional perch. And you need to prioritize yourself. Coming from a single parent home. I would feel so privileged if I had a figurehead such as yourself. Also I don’t feel terrible. 6 months tomorrow actually. I carried a lot and now I don’t have any dead weight. The time and work I put into myself is for me. I gained my time back. My marriage was a waste of half my life. Now I only have time for myself. I gained myself back after years of unappreciated effort. This feels so similar. 18 years ended in November. I left a day later. She spent Xmas with another man and his family a month later. Late January a week before my birthday she scheduled euthanasia for our dog of 15 years without notice (like the divorce 🤣). Guess who drove her to the vet? He stayed in the car when I walked up to it and nothing happened but I didn’t show any emotion and was a fucking monk. I give that to the Lord. Prayed a lot that morning. I was there for my pup. All those feelings are valid but you need to start turning attention inward. There needs to be redirection and that’s were you come in. When you catch yourself turn it into something physical. Pushups, jumping jacks whatever. Discipline the mind. It’s slow but certain. You can eventually make it a game and give yourself a tax but I’d also recommend getting into a hobby that is cerebral. Learn something. Start directing the mental bandwidth into something else. Let the hurt fuel you for something…

I’m so sorry to hear that Bob. Only 18 years for me sir. I know my identity being tied to a husband was a basis of self image for so I can imagine how much more ingrained that is for you. I’m about 5 1/2 months out when my soon to be ex wife dropped the news on me with no warning. Mentally the shift of investing my time and mental bandwidth into myself has worked wonders. Great reply. Indeed. I’m about 5mo out myself and also a 15 year marriage. Mine spent Xmas with another man and his family just a month later. I’ve found prayer and focusing on myself has helped tremendously. Building or reminding yourself of your identity outside of her is key. For me, guitar, rock climbing, reading, etc etc. Obviously we become immersed during marriage and become the husband as the basis of identity but their is more to that and we self abandon. This is good. And yes her reasoning will be bullshit if you present it as a point of discussion. I was just saying acknowledge it like the weather so it’s non threatening and move on to the important stuff. If it was bothering you as it seemed in the post. I think you’re instinct is good though. Your life and time are valuable. If she’s so shutdown she can’t have a conversation then there can’t be progress and without progress, nothing to salvage. If you want to really throw her for a loop, and I believe you seem to be sincerely there (for the most part), calmly and casually tell her that you know she’s in a relationship and you’re happy for her. Then transition into your point of business about coordinating childcare. She’ll get shaken for sure haha Authenticity is key though. Then be prepared for a test. This was great advice and I agree, she already had her mind up. Therapy was a performance of platitudes. You don’t do 2 sessions with an intention to change or reconcile with so little, just an act. The only thing I’ll add is to also take care of yourself. Of upmost importance. You’ll fade otherwise. So difficult at times but even if you have to use your kids as motivation to do so, use that. In the sense that if you can’t care for them properly if you don’t care for you because it’s only you no…

Everyone does indeed have flaws and helping someone is fine but you aren’t their savior either after a 6mo relationship. Did this behavior just start to peak its head? People hid things well in the beginning and like you said, maybe a symptom of a greater issue. 6mo is a young relationship. I think your instinct to call it off momentarily is a great boundary. She cannot become comfortable disrespecting you this early and much less with children. Keep trusting your instinct

I mean it sounds like you took your role seriously, which is good but if you were the provider, did she fit her feminine role too? If you are having trouble making an ends meet did she also not take a vow to remain for better or worse? Sickness and health? You hint at substance abuse so not sure if this was something but being alone isn’t a bad thing. It’ll be ok. Time to rebuild not beat up beyond what is useful. Mannn I hope a light at the end of the tunnel for you soon brother. I’m sorry to hear and appreciate you sharing. It makes sense though, you’re caught in damn limbo and being held hostage legally. Once it gets moving, even if messy, I think it’ll be better. Godspeed, I will pray for you

I think you are being unfair to yourself brother. You can use this as a launchpad to evolve. Can be loyal? Has she cheated? I assume she requested the split? I mean… beyond that which are already absolute no’s in my mind, the lists you provided don’t really give me any compelling reason tbh. Are you coming from a place of fear? Like scared you can’t get anyone else? I don’t see why you are pondering reconciliation and frankly if it’s possible is she did initiate or cheat on you and generally any…

Divorce was initiated in November by my stbxw but couldn’t afford it so I paid a prep service which consisted of a paralegal that represents us and files the paperwork for us for an uncontested divorce/dissolution of marriage. I just submitted final docs a week weeks ago which included her notarized wet signature and prep service submitted to court. Waiting for the judge now to sign off but at least in California given it’s an uncontested/dissolution of marriage, we don’t need to show up. Just b…

Ooof that’s fucking insane. I can’t imagine the degree of sickness of a mind that would think that’s ok. Let it be fuel for your pursuits. Don’t let it happen again but keep poker face. She’s absolutely trying to provoke you and cause harm. As the Lord says, guard your heart my brother. See her for what she is and let this be a catalyst to detach. That is not a person worthy of the investment of your love, time nor attention. Ruminating will be normal at this point, I just don’t want you to comm…

Bro… no. 2 years and no courtesy of basic communication. You have to see clearly at some point and recognize the grand disrespect of going with someone else and still waiting you around for emotional (likely financially) assistance too.

Divorce is so painful and life is like still water but we must row to find to even fathom the thought of solid ground again. Start wading and stop waiting if you’ve lost the oar. I believe in you brother.

I wouldn’t do a gift but a letter could potentially hit her hard and accomplish your needs as well. Nothing too declarative, overly verbose or overly sentimental, but could live rent free in her head for a long time. Sounds mutual? Maybe no third party involved?
/r/Divorce_Men15/03/26 12:10 PM

Sounds like depression or potentially psychological conditions that could be affecting the physical. You could take pharmaceutical compounds as suggested but if it is a psycho-emotional foundationally, you might still have issues. Have you considered therapy? Prayer? When was the last time you did something you love? I got back into old hobbies immediately and it sort of helped to spark my spirit. Small suggestion would be long walks. I’m actually getting up now to go to the park and walk a coup…

Honesty I’m not even seeking company. I’m not isolating either. Like I’ll go out to dinner with coworker that invited me but mostly I’m just trying to build my body and mind and spirit. I’m kind of enjoying investing in myself after neglecting myself for so long. My favorite social time is hanging out with my brothers. Not too many friends but people I’m friendly with and get social time with when I go to Jiu Jitsu or rock climbing or play soccer with. If this helps at all. Maybe solitude isn’t …

Ehh worse things brotha. You got some of the poison out and now know it’s better off not engaging because it’s futile. Don’t knock yourself more, the divorce feels plenty bad and this won’t bring you any closer to moving on. If anything let it show she is committed to making you the villain so don’t waste more energy ruminating that you fucked up. All good. Chin up, move forward.

I respect this and I see 18 was the magic number for you too lol I don’t even want to or find myself caring about the narrative or what she’ll say tho tbh. She’ll continue to live and repeat her lie if she never faces the truth. My best to you tho brother, good spirit for sure and I can see your strength but remember our identities are greater than what they paint it to be. 2 tears in a bucket, fuck it. Feed em fish.

Firstly, I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. You’re obviously a patient person but one that has little self worth. 1 time is too many brother. I say that with love. For it to happen again and still stay, she has no respect for you or the marriage or the home, which was again apparent the first time. Please respect yourself moving forward. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this especially with children but doesn’t seem healthy for anyone in that situation. Also, I feel she will leave you when she gets papers. Self abandonment was an ugly truth for me as well. Hard & honest look on the mirror helps. Wake up early (430am) put on a podcast, prayer, music and jsut walk for 2 hours. Get some good shoes! Favorite way to start the day. Yes I work full time and some days I commute 3 hours in a day (1.5 each way) and make time for it. Jogging now but lost a ton of weight and just locks me tf in for the day. Highly recommend

No thank God. I made a post a bit ago where I went into more detail cause I think she’s jsut fucking unstable 😂😂 she wanted to start a family earlier in the year but then changed her mind I guess and stated she isn’t want to be with me anymore. Slot of living parts tbh but in a nutshell. Idk man… never saw this behavior before but I had a home girl just tell me that she’s messy and wants attention. Simple. Should hopefully file for divorce formally in the next few days. I don’t want her back but I just can’t wrap my fucking head around how/why someone wouldn’t just talk to me and want to tell her how I feel but I also don’t want to share anything more of myself. That’s so tough bro. Praying for you. My 18 year relationship ended like 9 days ago. I have a lot of moments of peace and anger but I’m working out every single day. Waking up early, cold showers, eating healthy, etc. I just can’t manage my sleep all that well yet but the physicality helps.

God bless you man. Similar situation. Focused but tired. Late 30’s myself and about a week out from when she told me similar after 18 years last Thursday when my mom was hospitalized earlier in the week. I mean I’m pretty sure I had an out of body experience hearing what she had to say when I got home from work 😂 I’ve just prayed, worked out everyday and revisited my own post to re-read the words of encouragement. You’re an ace, I can tell. Chin up or the crown falls brother.

Oh I have no qualms about her intentions. I have a house but it’s in my families name. For years so it’s not in jeopardy. I had a rental with her. I give no fucks what she does. I’m starting divorce immediately. I’m super fortunate and had a place to go to with family. I’m watching the fights right now with my brothers. I’m good. Not lack of backbone here, she signed the form releasing me from the lease. What she does is no longer my business.

Oof so true man. Yeah the bad thoughts combo waves but they are pretty easily purged when I can catch myself and pray. Godspeed. We got this.

Oof brotha, I cannot even stay in this place. I want nothing to do with her, the shared belongings, this space, etc. just the animals I will miss which she said I can see anytime. Words obviously but I’m happy to leave. I’m taking my direct belongings only, tools, guitar but I don’t want fucking a damn thing. I’ll replace everything slowly. I want to rebuild in every way.

Yeah man, I can’t even think about being another fucking woman. Forward and onward. Every time I workout I’m going to hear “undesirable” lol I honestly can’t wait to use that in a healthy way
