Yeah, that's what I thought to myself too. How can he keep claiming he loves me and would do anything for me and not do this?

yeah, typically he pays for dates and ubers and everything. I just dont understand how he can say "I dont want you to pay too much" and then go ahead and say for me to pay the hotel bill...

Ooo, I love this post. I remember dating a guy previously who was wealthy and although it was nice having him pay for everything and take me out for nice dinners, I felt he lacked time management skills and emotional effort. Then again, I was more naive back then and saw it as a good thing because of listening to people online equating high value to high quality and I fell into that trap. Now I know that a man should come with ALL three investments: time investment, energy/effort investment, and…

Okay, that makes sense! And yes, I am definitely still going to pursue my career and ensure I have my own money as I don't want to completely rely on someone.

THIS. I know for a fact most girls would love their man to put in the effort to make Valentine's Day special. The one's convincing themselves it doesn't matter know their SO won't put in the effort. I don't care if it's "not a real holiday", smh.

yeah, I don't know why it's happening tbh. I definitely won't start chasing because I already know how that goes but luckily school is starting again soon and I won't have as much time on my hands. I also was talking to other people before but now I just don't have the energy to talk to multiple people for some reason. Also, we did have a date planned about a couple weeks back but our city went into lockdown again so we've planned it again in the next upcoming weeks when lockdown ends

yeah, i definetely dont feel like its a drag talking to him and enjoy it but I just want to make sure im not dedicating too much time to someone I barely know yet. Thanks for the advice!

But would that be considered lying? And I've heard you have to be fully open with your partner and such. And also the guy ive been seeing for a couple of weeks has been saying that he doesn't like it when girls sleep with multiple guys and such but when he saw me, he knew i "wasn't that type of person"... lol. So now i feel like an imposter or like im lying lol.

Sis, I feel you. I'm 5'10 and love my height but also want a guy at least my height and above. I try not to knock guys that are like 5'9 though if they treat me very well. But if a guy is frightened/intimidated by my height I drop them because they're holding up the line of the many guys that love tall women :)

I'm trying to do this but how do you go about "dodging" a kiss on dates or telling them that I don't want to kiss until a relationship? For me, kissing creates emotional attachment and I don't want that to happen when still vetting.

This! I always plan to live my life single and often fantasize about my future single life. If someone comes along, cool, if they don't, cool! My biggest goal in life is to make sure my self-love continues to grow and flourish. That's all I need :)

Okay, that makes sense. So in the case that he isn't meeting your communication needs while dating do you drop him or tell him?

Is everyday communication critical when in the dating stages or no? I feel like I always get mixed messages about this lol

Beautifully written. I struggle with the feelings of trying to change myself for a man's validation and also having competing thoughts of wanting to be free and whole in myself. I just want to live for myself but I feel like the nagging head in my voice that I "need a man" just won't stop. I hate that feeling that every decision is shaped by how it may attract a potential partner. It just stops me from living life how I desire. God, if that feeling of wanting to attract a mate wasn't there, I wo…

As a black girl, when men are interested in me (for more than a fetish) it makes me appreciate them more because I know they weren't tainted by the messages from the media and are seeing clearly.

ugh yes, honestly I was just being stubborn because I had already liked him so much that other guys didn't seem appealing anymore. Never again though :)

Thanks for your response :) I'm definitely very emotional and get swept up too quickly and want to be more cautious going forward. I understand what you mean by not getting too detached though. It's truly a delicate balance.

yeah, I have a problem with doing that tbh. I'm glad I put my foot down and got out of what could have been way more painful in the long run. Thanks for your advice :)

ugh, thank you for your kind words girl! It's nice to know I'm not the only one that has gone through this and I'm glad I made the right decision. Slowly but surely I'm getting over him and I can't wait to meet that 100% mark. Thanks again :)

My dad has a lot of high-value traits like treating my mom like a queen, very intelligent, etc. but very emotionally unavailable with his kids. Barely received affection/validation from him (and my mom as well) so my whole childhood (and even now), I search for love and affection anywhere I can. I remember being 7 years old and seeing a student getting a hug from a teacher and I felt so sad. The feelings of low self-worth I experience now were there since probably kindergarten and (probably even…

yeah, right? it's crazy! We've been going out for almost a month. I'm slowly but surely detaching myself from him so even if he does fade out I wouldn't care. Never again will I get attached to someone like that too quickly again. I don't care if everything seems perfect and sparks are flying left and right. Way too much heartache for nothing.

sis, I'm going through the exact same thing right now, its weird. Met a guy on a dating app that I thought I clicked with. He paid for everything, used to call me, send good morning texts, seemed very empathetic, and like he cared about my well being and comfort and wanted a relationship. He slowly stopped texting and calling me and it hurts. I've reached out (terrible, I know) and he still acts interested and wants to take me out but I don't trust his motives after he went days without talking …

yeah, sorry, i should have clarified that more. Once I texted him that, it was like everything is the exact same that it was. He's trying to make me laugh, keeps asking me questions, and said he's trying to figure out where to take me for our next date. I think I'm realizing that maybe he's actually genuine and just doesn't text often. He did used to text a bit more in between our 1st and 2nd date so idk why its waned off so much :/. I'm still going to be wary and start to detach myself because …

I think so tbh. I definitely felt like I needed him almost as my only source of happiness because I haven't been too happy with my life lately. I felt like there was a hole when he left, like I desperately needed him to come back make that feeling go away. He did respond after trying to set up a date and I had this huge rush of a relief, but I am still wary. Im for sure going to get myself back into therapy because the rollercoaster of emotions I felt today over someone I literally have just met…

Wow, this really put things into perspective for me. I think i'll be going into dating with this attitude once I deal with my own issues. Thanks for your response :)

thanks for your response. He ended up texting me back after I sent the flirty text and he's still trying to set up another date but after not texting me for almost 2 days, I dont know if he's serious because I dont think people go that long without texting someone they like. I'm going to really work on not getting attached too quickly. Thanks again :)
