I am divorced. And I pay child support for my 2 wonderful kids. I've never missed a payment. Maybe I've been a few days late once or twice. But Always managed to pay without making a fuss. My kids have lived with their mother and I've had them every other weekend. Ive taken them to hockey practice and have helped pay for their hobbies where I can. Recently my ex-wife has agreed to switch our custody to 50/50. So the kids are now with me one week then her one week. But she honestly expects me to continue paying child support!! At the same rate as when she had them as primary parent. In fact according to support guidelines here. And support calculators. 50/50 shared custody, she should actually be paying me support as she makes more money. But she feels that we have a legal contract that says I pay child support. And until I have that changed.. It's pay up buddy or she'll report me to the courts! And after talking today to a lawyer. She's in her right to do so! He also said that in order to be granted a divorce in Ontario one has to meet the custody and support guide lines set out by family law. But once the divorce is granted support and custody have to be negiotiated. So she is free to live outside the law and I can't stop it without paying out more for lawyers! I also ended up with a ton of debt in the divorce. I had to declare bankruptcy as it was either pay the debt or the child support. All I want is to have my kids in my life as much as possible give them a good home and to live within the boundries of the support guide lines set out by the law. But now I have to fight and find more money in order to have that. Thank you Canada for making fathers second class citizens! Sorry for the rant.
