Neil Lyndon, I should say, was a brave man. His book 'No More Sex War' was universally trashed in the press when it came-out in the early 90s, but he did indeed have a way with words and some interesting things to say about feminism. (I recommend getting your hands on the book and giving it a good read; used copies are available for under a buck at Amazon.com and you could probably read it for free through inter-library loan.)

I have to say I was confused by one of the comments on the article, though:

...I can say that as I woman (who acknowledges the blessing of not being born into a more restrictive time or place) what I find causes me the most dissatisfation with the state of things is having who I am (including my emotions, beliefs, and desires) as an individual being classified as valid or invalid in accordance with what society says I am suposed to feel, believe, or want. So instead of having this writer questioning why women can't be satisfied by the legislative gifts of equality so generously bestowed by men, maybe he should be asking men why they can't stop feeling the need to be able to oversimplify and define what the words 'woman' and 'femininity' mean to them.

I have read this comment several times already, and it's very difficult for me to make much sense of it. Does this commenter honestly believe that men typically have their "emotions, beliefs, and desires" automatically validated by society no matter what? Have no male heretics ever been burned at the stake before? Has no male politician ever been ousted for saying something foolish? What she describes makes it sound as if that's her biggest and most pressing complaint, but I can't help noticing how airy and abstract and princessy it feels. I simply find it impossible to relate to someone whose most aching sore is that society doesn't do enough to validate her emotions. It's not a complaint that I can readily sympathize with.

And then, she goes-on to say 'men' are doing the defining where she earlier said it was 'society.' Do women never take it upon themselves to define what a "Real Man" should do or not do? Who was it that was handing-out all them white feathers in England during WWI?

What I find hilariously ironic, though, is that after complaining about how other people don't do nearly enough to respect and validate her feelings & beliefs, she concludes the paragraph by saying that Niel really ought to set his beliefs aside and instead prioritize what's truly important: echoing her own beliefs! Ugh. Just... ugh. The lack of self-awareness of this woman is so rich, you could pound it into a paste and spread it onto rye toast for a hearty breakfast.

This is the unpardonable fault of feminism. Of all the disservices to our age fostered by that pernicious and poisonous ideology, none has been more ruinous than this preposterous lie - that men keep women down in order to preserve their own powers.

This article lays it on thick, I like it.

We don't even count it as an intolerable injustice and inequality that men are still required to work five years longer than women before they become eligible for a state pension.

Hmm, I actually didn't even know that. Is this true?

Men don't go on about it, but the truth is that things aren't entirely wonderful for us, either. The difference is that we don't suppose we've got a God-given right to blame women for it.

It's almost like women are learning that "patriarchy" and "privilege" mean responsibility and burden. Whoops, you got duped! Feminism was introduced and funded by governments so they could tax more citizens(women) and to disrupt the family.
