I'm a Lawyer working in Family Law. I do not see irrational bias in the Court System against men in the Family Law Arena. As for Custody: Most states have taken the step of pro-actively adopting legislation that states the sex of a parent cannot be used as a factor in determining Custody. Custody is entirely determined on what is in the Best Interest of the Child and the factors include, special needs of the children, the earning capacity of the respective parents, any history of child/drug abuse of the parents, special needs of the adults, the working environment of the parents, etc. The only place I'd making say there is some subconscious bias is with infant children and children of "tender years," Judges might have a preference to put these children with the women because of breast feeding and the idea that women are more compassionate to toddlers and that is in the best interest of the child.

In custody cases to, it should be noted that a huge distinction between men and women and pregnancy is that it's much easier to walk away from a baby for men, than for a woman. Generally speaking, dead-beat dads can just walk away and it will never hit them. Deadbeat moms...they may be shitty parents, but you know they're THERE.

As for Divorce,

Distribution of the marital assets is based on the idea that marriage is a partnership intended for life. Using this basic framework, the marital assets (complicated definition) are split on essentially a 50/50 Basis.

Are some women Gold Diggers? yes. Are some people shitty people? yes. But Come on guys, they're easy to spot. Furthermore, post nuptial agreements are an available option if either party is worried about their assets in the event of a divorce.

As for Child Support. Parents have a legal obligation to support their biological children. This is a good thing. It is based on the income of the payor parent.

I do agree though, that since Women have the option to abort a child if they're "not ready for a child yet." Then there should be a time-frame for men to say, I'm not ready to care for a child yet, and therefore I'm withdrawing any obligation to pay for this child if you do not have an abortion.

Edit* I'm a Dude, if that wasn't clear & (2), This is my experience. I have no reason to lie about it. I don't know why you think I would. I notice there are also a lot of whining amongst the responses, but I don't see any solutions being offered.

Edit 2: This is the worst experience I have had in this subreddit. A group of people which I once thought were among the more reasonable members of reddit have clearly chosen a different path here. I still stand by everything I say.

Edit 3: All I'm saying, and it appears r/mensrights is not reasonable enough to believe it: The statutory factors that mandatorily must be considered for Custody, Support, and Equitable Distribution of Marital property are written gender neutral. That's is a fact (you can look them up). In my experience, I have seen them applied equally and fairly to both men and women. Why is it so hard for /r/MensRights to believe that? I'm not saying it happens that everywhere else in the US, but that's my experience and I thought I'd share.

I'd also point out that the original post speaks only speaks to Custody/Support/Marital Property. Some people have brought up Domestic Violence issues and that's a different subject all together, especially with the prevailing stereotypes of both genders.
