My partner (male) has two children from a previous marriage, 14 and 16. The 16 year old is currently in foster care, his Mother had him sent there for smoking Spice. The Mother had my partner's child support reevaluated, and it jumped from $458 (it was more, but went down when one boy turned 16) to over $1,200. He now will be making less than $400 a week. This is insane, absolutely insane, and he has half the court costs for the foster care to pay as well. Is there anything we can do? Will it go down automatically when the younger one turns 16? I've tried to get my partner to go to a lawyer, but he's crushed by this decision. He thinks a lawyer couldn't help anyway, and we definitely can't afford one now. He left to work looking like he was going to drive into oncoming traffic on the highway. He desperately wanted to leave his job, but we'll never be able to afford the child support payments now if he does. His spirit is absolutely crushed. I've been googling all morning but the information is just so hard to come by. We're in Michigan, if that helps. Any advice, even on just how I can support him in this trying time, would be welcome.
