I think there is all the difference in the world between making jokes about sensitive/offensive subjects and celebrating, savoring and finding genuine gleeful amusement in a real-life incident of a violent/sexual crime.

The women on "The Talk" are guilty of the latter, with Sharon Osbourne even admitting that while she didn't know any of the surrounding circumstances, she found the knowledge of a man having his penis severed and thrown in into the garbage disposal "quite fabulous" and "hilarious." She was getting off on a real person's mutilation.

I'm presuming the dildo wielder did it still thinking it was all just a prank, but how much is intent a mitigating factor when you strip someone to reveal their privates, hold them exposed, vulnerable and immobilized against their protests, and then jokingly pretend to/attempt to/actually (hard to tell which) penetrate them by jabbing a dildo at their bare anus?

Tosh even says "the line between prank and rape is pretty blurry right now." Well, wasn't it?

I very much doubt that the prank victim would have ever consented to having that done to him beforehand or during. In the video, he was being held down, trying to cover his ass with his hands, and repeatedly shouting out what sounds like "Stop!"

This is just speculation on my part, but he may have retroactively said that it was all good and just a prank, to avoid coming across as a bad sport and a whiner, particularly if everyone else was treating it lightly as just a harmless prank.

What's the other choice? Fight an uphill battle to get others to take it seriously and end up being shamed by them even if he succeeds? Downplaying it gets others to think that he just got jokingly pranked, rather than held down and sexually assaulted by another man.

Him playing along after the fact may be what made it legally feasible to put the clip in Tosh's show (again, just speculation).

We all know the reaction would have been different if it had been a teenage girl this was done to, on all sides.

I don't think this should be dismissed offhand as being a harmless prank because feminists are using it as part of a campaign against Tosh for other reasons. While I don't think it would have even crossed their radar screens otherwise, I think viewed in isolation, it is an example of something happening to a man being discounted when it would be obviously outrageous if done to a woman.

Imagine this being a woman, with all the commentator's humorous references to unlubed penetration, losing her virginity, prison rape, etc, and it being said against the real-life video of her being held down, stripped, screaming out "stop," with her bare asshole being jabbed at, all against her will.

I'm quite amused how /r/feminism manages to blame their problems on their favorite boogeyman -- the MRAs (I guess anything not blameable on the Patriachy is blamed on MRAs).

Also, TracyMorganFreeman seems quite infamous on SRS -- obviously the truth is ruffling a few feathers -- or rustling a few jimmies as SRS would say.
