I just saw a commercial for the Olympics claiming that, "behind every athlete is a loving mom." Not any sort of father figure. Only a mom. The fuck?

Oh man, I was sitting with my dad watching TV when this commercial came on.

He shakes his head and says "'Thanks mom' Y'know you never see anybody ever saying 'Thanks dad'"

Furthermore, at the end of that sentence, they showed pictures of the brands they own, stuff like Tide, kitchen products, "mom" stuff.

This whole idea that women, or moms, are the only people who like to clean shit, pisses me off. The whole gender bias in commercials makes me fucking sick. DADS TAKE CARE OF SHIT, TOO. Dads get shit done too.

And not just dads, men. Regular ass men. Why is this so hard for the media to understand?

And to blatantly excuse dads from this ad, really really just pissed me off so here I am, complaining to some people who will hopefully understand.

Why couldn't they have just said, "behind every athlete, are loving parents."

? What the hell, America. What the hell.

Oh, and I don't deny that moms are awesome. I love my mom, and moms alike. Just pointing out the lack of father figures or domesticated male-types in a lot of ads on tv.

White knights and hypersensitive women have created a society whereby we have to say things that frame women positively all the time. Women like to talk about valuing honesty, but the bottom line is they don't want to hear what men really think. They want to hear what they think, but in a deeper voice (to steal a quote from Bill Cosby).

Men are actually shamed for not thinking the following:

"Being a mom is the hardest job"

"Women are intuitive"

"A good woman is behind every successful man"

"Size 4 is too small"

The truth is, some men think differently on these subjects as do some women too!, so get off your high horse when guys don't think being a mom is the hardest job. Learn to respect different views hypersensitive women and white knights.

I know! I saw this shit a few days ago and was like ummmm? WTF? Who made your baby woman? You don't just pop out a damn baby, it takes two for that to happen. I guess whatever father those athletes had is just some fat drunk who does nothing, contributed nothing to that child's upbringing, didn't help them with sports, and heaven forbid actually TALKED to them. Yup, all that is a womans job. ONLY A WOMANS JOB.

When it comes to sports, which I played minimum 5 times a week as a kid, it was always my dad. Dad who took time off work, came to support me, took the financial risks, all those long car rides, tournaments, lessons. All mom did was show up to one or two games a year.

Don't get me wrong, I love my mom and she has helped in other areas, but commercials like these are a huge step backwards.

I would like to write them a strongly worded letter (still with complete polite professionalism) about their negligence in half of the support system that these athletes have.

Another problem with this sort of thing is that some people- and I see no reason to think athletes are somehow an exception- didn't have a loving mom. Some people have uncaring moms. Some people have downright abusive moms. And our society's idealization of motherhood continuously tells such people they don't exist, that the mistreatment they've suffered must not have been real or must have been justified.
