I'm pretty sure if there were more pacifists, by all technicalities the world would be more peaceful. Gender doesn't exactly factor into it, I've met women that are more aggressive than males. Parts that really irk me: Saying military drill instructors teach better when not yelling, and take a counseling role. Hell no, the reason they yell is to introduce you into a stressful environment! It's not candy land, it shouldn't be! War isn't candy land! I still dislike statistics saying that one group lags in certain positions of power. People should not go out of their way to vote or promote people based on what group they are in, but what their abilities are. If you can do the job better than others, I will chose you to do it. I would love for them to show me an example of the gender barriers that the mentioned in the 4th to last paragraph. I will agree, even positive stereotypes are bad. That's about the only thing that made sense. The last paragraph bothered me as well. Do they really think that leaders think of war as the go to cure for everything? Negotiations do happen, but there are stubborn governments, and although it does suck, it has been the only viable option (to my knowledge) for certain situations. I hate war, but honestly, sometimes it's a necessary thing in politics.

Why would they think that? My wife used to be a school teacher, where 90%+ of staff were women. She uses word "hostile environment" to describe atmosphere in there. She is much more comfortable working with men than with women.

Based on what she told me about women-dominated work space, I think the claim "if women were in charge the world be more peaceful" is simply not true.

That is a trend, not (yet) a fact. Women still lag in leadership positions, holding only 5% of top corporate positions and a minority of positions in elected legislatures...

Can someone clarify something for me... is it wrong to make such statements with the thought that the workforce would be somehow corrected in this "lag" by having an even 50/50 split in leadership roles? Why aren't we complaining about the "lag" of female deaths/injuries on the job or female enlisting rates or...

If men suffer in jobs because, "that's just the way men are" (implicitly careless, foolish, dangerous), then why is it not the case that females don't attain leadership roles because, "that's just the way women are"? Leaders work like anybody else does, much harder often, they have a vision and a goal. You blame them for your problems but you never attribute them for your successes.

This hypothetical bullshit about gender equality in leadership causing military peace and noninvolvement is totally disingenuous. First off, you're not accounting for the GDP of these countries which, to me, is the absolute biggest predictor of whether or not they will initiate wars and in which ways. There's no way to make apples to apples comparisons of third world nations and Switzerland.

Actually, there is (according to Nye) a trend towards more feminine leadership skills. But only a trend. Lets' say their importance has grown by 20% in, say, the last decade or two. Let's further say that these skills are 20% more likely to show up in women than men. If everything else remains the same the number of women in powerful positions should have risen only by something like five per cent (as it has). Right?

If wars are typically something people do when backing off or fighting and losing means a terrible catastrophe (your kids dying or something like that) then it's demeaning to claim that women don't fight. I mean, somebody who can't fight even when faced with total destruction isn't really human, is she? If a typical war, furthermore, includes a feeling that you're treated unfairly (like being attacked) then the characterization sounds even more demeaning.
