Splendid. It’s breathtakingly degrading to women, even more so than in the Playboy era, where the reader at least had to use his imagination a bit; to court the Girls of the Big 10, he had to create scenarios in his head, the equivalent of foreplay. Now, with sleazy videos, it’s just about watching acts in gynecological detail, no fantasy, no courtship, no foreplay, just the use of a body as a tool, typically culminating in an act so physically humiliating and perverse I cannot voice it here. This has all extended into the modern bedroom. I know. I hear it from my female students. Women feel used and ignored, and if you read “Fifty Shades” with this in mind, what you see, beyond the adolescent-level sex scenes, is a man lavishing an astonishing amount of attention on a woman. That’s what women are responding to, that little crumb of hope for respect and control, packaged for us by the male-geek-dominated tech world in the Kindles and the felicitously named “Nook” machines that helpfully confer anonymity in public, no book jacket visible, to better hide our shame

So in otherwords, anything that women do that could ever be considered less than perfection is the fault of men.

Also: men owe women attention, and if we don't give it to them, we're actually abusing them.

Fucking christ. "Fifty Shades" is not any more "stupid" than eating eggs with a chopstick.

It's a book made so girls can get off.

Can we have a discussion about sexuality for once that doesn't devolve into calling each other's sexual preferences and fantasies "STUPID" and "CHILDISH"?

No. Girls are NOT jerkin' it to "Fifty Shades" because they lack the attention of 28 year old billionaires. Girls are jerkin' it to "Fifty Shades" because it's hot to them, and they can.

Grow up and take responsibility over your own sexuality instead of making everything the fault of men you sexually immature dingbats.

When we do this, maybe we can have a mature discussion over ensuring everyone is sexually fulfilled instead of denigrating the masses because they finally found something that got them off, and you're so sexually frustrated that instead of celebrating the sexuality of others, you do everything in your power to make them as sexually frustrated as yourself.

There's something very sheltered and Victorian about this. It turns out that some women enjoy having unladylike, un-PC sexual fantasies about powerful men with dominating personalities? And might even buy and read a book because of such base desires? Evil men and their depraved ways must have driven them to it!

This is listed as humor, but honestly I am not sure what part of it is supposed to be funny. It comes across as somewhat sincere. Add to it the fact that by the end, men have been blamed for the book's popularity....

Personally it doesn't bother me that this book is popular, and thats all I'll say about it. :)
