A remarried mother/friend of mine brought up that while she received a bunch of hand made stuff (cards, presents, artwork) for Mother's Day, her son's school did not to show appreciation for Father's Day. Some other friends who were/are teachers claim that it is because oftentimes the father is absent in the child's life and so they don't celebrate it to avoid upsetting kids but the child always has a mother.

They also said that even some years when encouraged to make cards for Uncles, or Grandfathers, or other positive male figures the children would be upset because they had none. I found it very sad that the majority of good and involved fathers have to be ignored because of a few jerks (not to include or forget the involuntarily absent fathers).

I feel that it should be all or nothing and Mother's and Father's Day should be celebrated equally.
