Meh, Sam Carter never rubbed me the wrong way. It's that stupid bitch from another show that came on in one of the last seasons that turned me off to the whole show. She contributed NOTHING but stupid humor. Sure she was hot and all, but she was fucking annoying.

One time she propped her feet up on teh general's desk and said "When will a woman get to sit here?" or some shit. Um, fuck off you guys already have a woman running Stargate Atlantis (apparently the new president thinks some reporter woman is qualified to run an intergalatic base, but I digress).

Yeah, I noticed it as well. That said, she's not a raging, all-men-are-bastards type, so I don't mind it.

I am a major Stargate fan, but I saw nothing wrong with their Carter-Women's Rights episodes. At no time did they suggest a) women were better than men, b) women were treated worse than men (as a gender), c) the military was hostile to women, etc.

They made their stance clear in the first episode where Carter says "Just because I have my reproductive organs on the inside instead of the outside, blah blah", and O'Neill replies with "It isn't because you are a woman - I have nothing against women - it is scientists that I don't like."

In regards to BinaryShadow's statement about "When will a woman get to sit here?" What is so wrong with that? Why is it wrong if women are wondering when there will be a female in command? They aren't saying that a less qualified person should be in command - hell, they put Woolsy in command on Atlantis after Carter, and Sheppard was in command of the military presence on Atlantis.

It was always about who was the most qualified, and their occupation. Stargate was definitely not distinctly feminist, but rather distinctly gender neutral.

Huge scifi fan here.

I actually liked carter, especially as the first few seasons progressed. Some episodes got a little annoying but I liked how they took her, "just because my sexual organs are on the inside...." line in the first episode and turned it on its head time and time again. There were many instances where she wasn't shown, if she ever was (can't think of too many right now), as being some waife kicking the asses of men ten times her size all at once.

One of the reasons I really like SG1 was because she wasn't too much of a feminist but also wasn't some dumb blonde. I also really liked Daniel Jacksons character. He started out as the nerdy guy and then progressed to saving everyones asses instead of being a constant "derp herp, look at the incompetent nerd" type of joke. Both he and Carter went from being geeks and nerds to being able to handle themselves and kick ass and save the day time and again withing just a few seasons. I really liked that about SG1.

I liked how Jackson was the moral voice of reason instead of some woman, unlike Battle Star Galactica where Rosalin was the constant moral authority. I also liked how Jack was shown as a broken soul due to him losing his son and how they showed his military black ops experience as being limited to some degrees when fighting aliens. In every other episode it was the nerds saving the day, not the marines.

But yeah, they did lose some of that originality as the series progressed and with the spin offs. I kinda like Dr. mckay but his constant whining just gets annoying.

Yuck. You all really are bleep bloop. Sliders or voyager were good, stargate was terrible.
