It made me think, is this subreddit moving in a healthy direction, concerning whether or not the extremely valid point is being argued correctly. I really don't think it is.

When a person has a different opinion than you, and you decide to argue for the sake of arguing, you should at least do it with respect and merit.

Don't just call the person a monster for saying they were glad they were circumcised, and are going to do it to their future sons, but give reasonable and well explained arguments as to why it's such a shitty idea.

You did the equivalent of going into a feminist subreddit and saying "I don't get why wife beating is such a big deal. My husband beats me, but that's only because I won't listen." The likely response would have been a ban for trolling.

The difference is cultural bias. Wife beating is not socially acceptable behaviour, but in some places in the world, cutting parts off your baby boy is. In here, you're likely to find people who have shed the cultural bias over this particular issue, so you get the same response as you would saying something similarly obscene elsewhere.

Look, the circumcision issue isn't high on my list of priorities either, so I just keep out of those discussions. Bigger battles to fight out there bud.

No movement is perfect, and if the worst that happens is rabid downvotes than so be it. Sorry that's the response you received, but its pittance compared to what's going on outside the internet.

It is because to be a Men's Rights Activist being against circumcision is non negotiable. I assume that people who read r/mensrights either know enough about the subject to be against it or are trolls.

If you want to debate Male Genital Mutilation go somewhere else. r/mensrights is against this barbarism and if you have morals you should be too.

And that's the problem. "They're just downvotes! Karma doesn't matter!" they'll say, but at the end of the day it does. Dissent is silenced.
