We are both going to get downvoted, but I don't care, I agree with you. This was not rape or forced sex.

It might be have been problematic if the teacher let the relationship affect the kid's grade in the classroom (like any boss-employee or teacher-student relationship), but other than that I don't think there was any issue.

This was CONSENSUAL sex. If you are old enough to understand what sex is and consent to it, you are old enough to have it. Statutory rape laws are bullshit, and an insult to victims of actual rape. Consensual relationships should never be punished.

I know the argument against me is that children are not mature enough to enter into these relationships, but I disagree, and think that the state should not split people into classes based on age, all citizens are entitled to the same rights.

More like a general misunderstanding. As it stands, most any study on the effects of child molestation do not separate actual rape from statutory rape. A few studies, when interviewing the victims have found that a significant percentage do not suffer any ill effects and see the experience as positive. A few other studies have been done as to what factors in abuse are harmful, and the general findings have been that certain factors make the chance of mental disorders later in life much higher. Namely, these are if the abuser was a parent, if the child was prepubescent, if it was not consensual (ignoring for a second what the law says and actually paying attention to what happens), bad things happening to the perpetrator (either being put in jail, forced to run away, or being killed), and how negatively others react to finding out about the sexual abuse.

To put it simply, which of the below cases do you think is going to end badly.

A: A girl who was raped by her father between the ages of 6 to 10 at which point her friend who she had confided in told an adult. Her father was arrested, convicted, and killed in prison. Despite the abuse, the girl still loved her father and blamed herself for his misfortune. Her mother, who knew what was happening almost the entire time but choose to ignore it, also blames the girl, and continued call her 'whore' or 'slut' until the girl finally moved out 17.

B: A girl who, at the age of 13 began flirting with a 21 year old family friend who responded (at least initially) just to treat her nice. The parents trusted the 21 year old to take her on play dates and knew it wouldn't be long before she started to focus on boys her own age. Within the year the play dates had become quite serious with the boy returning the girls affection, and by the time she was 14 they had sex. The parents found out a few months later and while mad, did not turn the now 22 year old in and instead forced them to only engage in supervised dating. When she turned 16 they married.

Obviously these cases are at the very extremes and there is a lot of middle ground.
