Women and their families depend on federal programs to protect their health, get quality child care, attend college, and meet their basic needs during difficult times and as they age. We need to protect vital programs like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, child care, Head Start, and Food Stamps (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

And who is paying for all this? Mostly men.

Fact Check: I checked the transcript of Obama's speech, and he doesn't reference "women and their families". This bit of gynocentricism comes from the NWLC, not Obama. But what did he say about women? This:

You see, an economy built to last is one where we encourage the talent and ingenuity of every person in this country. That means women should earn equal pay for equal work. (Applause.)

They do. And there are laws for that if they don't.

And this:

I will not go back to the days when health insurance companies had unchecked power to cancel your policy, deny your coverage, or charge women differently than men. (Applause.)

So men can underwrite the health care for women, because female per capita health care expenditures are 32 percent higher than those of males. So men pay 16% more to cover "their share" of women's extra health care. Just like we pay more to cover their extra social security and welfare benefits.

So what does he say about men? ..... nada
