I was raised to open the door for and be polite to everyone. I'm not sure why anyone would teach their children just to be polite towards women in particular, why be exclusive to who gets treated well?

gender roles in chivalry are disappearing and the practice is becoming more about being respectful toward others, regardless of gender.

Seems reasonable to me. I'm a woman, but I hold doors open for others and help them out when I can.

"I still remember rising to my feet when a lady came or left the table.

That would make me SO uncomfortable.

So you should be chivalrous when a woman accuses you of rape, because she saw you with someone else? [happened to a friend.]

So you should be chivalrous when a woman is physically violent to you yet accuses you of violence, and has you removed from the house you pay for, that she has no legal ties to? [happened to two friends.]

So you should be chivalrous when a mother keeps a child from a father, and makes false claims of abuse? [My mother did this to my father.]

So you should be chivalrous when a woman cheats and gets pregnant, yet claims the baby is yours, even after the paternity test proves it is not? [happened to me.]

Please tell me I should be chivalrous in all situations.
