Entire articles should be read before jumping to conclusions like "men are being ignored once again." This article is actually very well balanced. I also think that the meaning behind the "17% have suffered at the hands of an abuser" is more of an umbrella term for domestic abuse and not rape in itself; like 17% have experienced some type of severe domestic violence. I think it goes without saying that rape, in itself, in any form, is terrifying and awful.

Rape and other forms of sexual assault, in my very personal experience, can bring up a huge mess of emotions. "Terrified" may not always be one of them, and it certainly wasn't for me. Self-doubt, anger, disappointment, loss (friends continued to willingly associate with the person who did it to me after I told them), lowered self-esteem, shame - those were what I felt.

Recognizing that there is not one singular rape or sexual assault experience is a huge necessity in diminishing the occurrence of those incidents, for men and for women. No one should be raped.
