This case highlights the chaos that the law is in. The woman won this money with income generated in the course of the marriage and so one would expect it to have been split equally.

I hate the gender bias which is present in the ruling, but I don't think marrying someone automatically makes you entitled to half of what they own. Marital assets? Yes. But bank accounts in their name? Personal property? No. That includes lottery winnings.

Complete fucking bullshit.

There's a case in the UK where a husband has been forced to give up lottery winnings from a prize that he won YEARS AFTER THE DIVORCE.

There's also a case where a husband was forced to give up money that he won in an insurance settlement where he was injured and unable to support himself for the rest of his life.

Actually, I think this would have been the same either way. It's consistent with the previous rulings the article lists and the High Court tends to concern itself with ruling on important matters of law rather than worrying about individual cases. This is a pretty strong precedent that should be of utility to men in similar positions.
